Aircraft Ground Crews - Tell Us What You Want...

Hello Everyone!

After reading through some of the threads, I thought we might be of assistance here.

Is there a need for ground crews and equipment for your collections? If so, now is your chance to speak up! Based on the replies here, I'll post a poll to narrow down the list...

We were thinking of producing both a civilian and military ground crew set and equipment.

What I need to know, what scale should we focus on first?

* Civilian, should it be 1/200?

* Military, should it be 1/72?

What Era?

* Military - Current, WWII, Vietnam???

* Civilian - Should it be maintenance or gate activities? Tow tractor, baggage ramp, baggage carts???

Should we offer both painted and unfinished for customization?

Thanks,
Patrick

You’re definitely on the right track, Patrick. If you produce ground crew sets, you’ll put yourself waaaay ahead of the crowd. I’d venture to say that most collectors would purchase WWII sets in 1/72 scale. Personally, I’d love to see Vietnam sets, too. Modern, too.

One thing: The more accurate and realistic these "little people" are (in terms of size and uniforms and equipment), the more likely you’ll sell them.

Your idea of selling both finished and unfinished sets is excellent, too.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

In my case I would only buy 1/72 prepainted WWII little men. I already have 2 sets of 1/72 ground crew: germans and USA.
I never had time to paint them. In the set there are gards, pilots taking a stroll, mecanics with big tools, or with hoses, others loading amo in the wings.
What would like also is airplane related 1/72 vehicles like a cistern truck.

I love Polikarpov

I personally would buy the painted (at least in figures) in 1:72! Might buy upainted equipment, if it is reasonably large and easy to paint myself.

Re: Aircraft Ground Crews - Tell Us What You Want...

I and many others here would definitely go for some pre-painted WWII ground crew in 1/72 scale. 1/72 scale has the most variety and number of WWII planes, so there are lots of 'em that need ground crew. Pilots and mechanics both would be great along with a bit of equipment and/or vehicles with them. Probably the best sellers would be American, British and German crews. But Japanese and Russian crews would also sell. And as Gort stated, the more accurate they are in terms of size, uniforms, etc., the better they will sell.

Re: Aircraft Ground Crews - Tell Us What You Want...

Ze peoples? Not so much. Ze machines? Yes please!

I'd have to agree that 1/72 would be my preference for military GSE. I've been buying the occassional 1/76 vehicle for such purposes, but I'd like to see dedicated equipment in 1/72. For that matter, I'd like to have some anti-aircraft batteries in 1/72, SAMs and AAA.

As for civilian, I really would like to see someone make something in 1/144 scale. Air stairs, tractors, vans, fuel trucks, pump trucks, etc. Western models produced a nice set in 1/200, and may still do so for all I know. But for my collection, 1/144 scale is the greatest need.

How about some kinda 1/72 scale military hangar? Revetments are nice but a hangar (with maintenance crew) would really make for a nice display. Could even come as a snap together kit to save on packaging or be modular.

I'll second that!

Suggest take a good look at Hasegawa's X48-009,Luftwaffe pilot figures and equipment set,for ideas. Something similar(in1:48 for me),painted, please! would be great. Don't need as many Bombs as the kit offers, but its definitely a great approach !Stock#,I believe,is 36009.
