Need info on 1/72 - comparisons please

I was surfing through the 1/72 Mustangs at the mule, and after seeing so many different manufacturers, I was wondering if y'all could post your impressions of the pros and cons of the following:

Corgi
Dragon
Witty
AEROArt

Thanks!

Did Skunky put you up to this??

The rivet counters have said time and time again that Dragon's mold is the most accurate. I have two Dragon P-51s at the moment, Petie 2nd and BBD, and they are very nice for the price. This topic was covered in detail on the old forum, too bad we lost all of that info. But what really matters is what models look good to you and what makes you happy.

Re: Need info on 1/72 - comparisons please

I think Dragon's P-51s are easily the best of the bunch, but Corgi's got more schemes... (unfortunatley the P-51D is one of their worst molds IMHO.). I don't have 'stangs from the other two, figured I have enough of 'em already from Dragon

I did a corgi/dragon comparison on my site a while back, check it out if you like:

Fiddly-Bits

"Bless them all, bless them all, bless the long and the short and the tall..."

I have 1:72 in Dragon, Corgi, Aeroart, and soon, Gemini.

I have Corgi Showcase, Model Power, Yat-Ming, and the 1:32 Ridge Runner from Wal-Mart. I love them all.

Get what you like. I do not worry about flat, round, inaccuracies, too-few rivets. I am trying to get as many fighter groups and squadrons as I can. That's my goal.

I love my Aeroart, Mary Mac. But my Twilight Tear is the sweetest!

Skunky who? I don't know of any...oh, THAT Skunky.

No, he didn't. Promise.

I appreciate all the input. I was wondering if anyone ever bought an AeroArt. I think I'd like a Mustang from 15 AF...but I can wait if they aren't up to snuff.

Re: Need info on 1/72 - comparisons please

First of all, Corgi doesn't make Mustangs in 1/72nd scale...Don't know why. I would think they would be a huge seller. After all, who doesn't like Mustangs?

Draggin' - Hands down the absolute cream of the crop..No one thus far comes even close...Positionable canopy, flaps and landing gear...The numerous so-called "fiddly bits" and lack of a pilot is an issue for many, but not for me..I collect model planes - not people. Most of the pilots you see in diecast look like something that Gort brought back from one of his many travels anyway.... and I just love fiddlin' with them bits. That's what separates the model look from the toy look in my (and planenuts) opinion............But where the hell's Lord Is My Shepherd !

Witty - not too terribly bad-but not too terribly good either....That low-riding alien in the cockpit, and no gear up option.Permanently fixed flaps and closed canopy..The only one I would probably ever consider getting would be "Stinky"...

AEROArt - These look pretty sharp.Positionable flaps., detailed cockpit interior. No gear up option, permanently closed canopy..Extremely limited selection..Keep in mind these are "two-seaters"...A little acetone will take care of the superfluous national insignia.

Thank you, Thank you!

How could I have EVER forgotten my Witty. I must be losing my WITs about me.

AND, I'm so easy, I forgot all those neat markings of the Easy-MRC. You wont find the Older or the Stinger--or 3rd ACC otherwise.

Egads! And me, Chicago's Own on top of it!

Okay, I've just changed my mind about the Witty..........it is terribly bad!....That profile shot just reminded me of when I used to see my grandmother driving up the street in her 1957 Plymouth Fury...

Re: Need info on 1/72 - comparisons please

Skunky is absolutely right!!! Dragon make the BEST P-51!!! Shape, parts, everything is perfect!!! Corgi leaves a little to be desired! It looks as though the tail is a wee bit to short from where the tail wheel is, just compare it to Dragon's???? Then Witty, nice paint schemes, wish Dragon would have over done the P-51's like they did the ME's and FW's!!!!!! AeroArt, nice but not enough! IMHO, listen to us when we tell you to get Dragon's P-51!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Need info on 1/72 - comparisons please

Consider yourself listened-to. I don't mind unique fixer-uppers, but I don't want to pay $25 for a plane that I have to fix with acetone.

I already have 2 Dragon Mustangs. I can now pass on the AeroART and Witty in good conscience.
