Re: Need info on 1/72 - comparisons please

I have 10 dragon Mustangs. I'd get more if Dragon put them out. I have not once got annoyed with putting them together. I have never had any bad problems putting them together. Maybe it makes a difference but I come from a serious model builder background, AND.......I'm just a fiddly bits kind of guy

Re: Need info on 1/72 - comparisons please

I have to agree with most of the fellas here. Dragon Models seems to have the best casting. It's not just that the detail is better, it's the casting accuracy and fit n' finish too. All that being said, I have a very warm spot in my heart for Corgi. I have and will continue to purchase every single piece that they come out with. I'll explain why.

I consider Corgi a collectible and the others just models.

  1. They are, IMHO, the only brand that has shown true monetary appreciation. Show me a Dragon, Hobby Master, or another brand that has as many pieces that resell over $100.00 (not that I would).
  2. They don't flood the market. You actually have time between the releases to get excited about your next purchase. I love new releases as much as the next guy, but there is a lot to be said for anticipation.
  3. They are just about the only ones that give us printed catalogs each year.
  4. Bombers! If you want to collect anything other than fighters, you've got to go Corgi. No one else has them.
  5. They have the best special issues. I would give Dragon some credit here for the whole cyberhobby thing, but that was/is a complete debacle. The dog bowl has to be the biggest let down I've ever experienced (I would have bought then all).

There's just something about Corgi...

For all their occasional faults I think all of us owe a debt of gratitude to the pooch as it was/is the company that has led the way for die-cast military aviation (especially Warbird) collectors . Die-cast collecting without Corgi just wouldn't be the same and I sincerely hope that they continue to amaze us with the likes of the Swordfish and Catalinas .

I agree, they have that intangible X factor.
