Re: Takara TMW A6M5 Zero 1/48

WOW, I have never seen a model like that before, it would make a superb subject for a Dio.

btw wmosner, your Christmas flowering cactus is showing a bud or two!
Its a tad on the late side!

My so called Christmas cactus actually bloom several times a year. I don't know if that is normal or not.

This little model comes with more little gadgets than seems possible. The whole left side of the plane can be done in the frame style, the engine can be out, the wing off. It comes with repair stands to hold the body like it was being repaired, separate stands to hold wing away from body, stand for the motor. The pilot, goose and dog are also included. I left the frame off from around the cockpit just so I could admire the fantastic detail of the cockpit. Just look at the detail behind the cockpit (tanks, radio, etc). The motor is also a little gem. It does, however, take some patience and glue to assemble and the fit in some areas is not perfect. I would love to see them to this to some Allied and German aircraft.

I really like the looks of that Takara Zero...Is it really a true 1:48 scale ?
It looks a little bigger then the FM Rufe Zero on there.

This was a team effort by Takara and Hasegawa. Thats one of the main reasons I got mine and felt confident it would be good!

That should be pretty easy to figure out on this one. Model looks to be and A6M5 which should have a wing span of 36ft. 1in. and a length of 29ft. 9 in. (Just going off of William Greens for a ball park). So after doing a little math, that would put a 1/48th scale A6M5 with a wing span of 9.02 in. and a length of 7.44in.. So that should at least provide a some idea of how close the model is to being 1/48th scale.

All things considered, I think I'd suspect the FM for being small instead

Looks like your Takara A6M5 is pretty spot on for 1/48th scale.

Re: Takara TMW A6M5 Zero 1/48

I purchased the non-weathered version with the red strip on the tail from a seller Ebay a few months back. I intended to display it on a turntable so you would get a great view of both sides.

Although the detail is great my plane had some serious QC issues with its paint job, most notably the top side of the left wing root. I think the weathered version helps distract from the seams which reveal the silver interior color. There were also some fit and finish issues with the guns and the panel which fits on top of the guns. One of the guns is loose and constantly falls out of place when trying to put the sections together. The other gun is glued at a bit of an angle which may be one of the reasons why the cowling won’t fit that well which in turn makes the other gun fall out of place.

The idea was great however for $50 plus I am little disappointed mainly due to the paint problems. If you plan get one of these plan on using glue to display it because putting it together can be a little like one of those NTSP post air crash reconstruction projects.

Re: Takara TMW A6M5 Zero 1/48

I think this is money well spent. I finally got a decent display case for the skeletal version of my zero.

hmm I just noticed the windshield fell off!! but oh well. its all good now.
