I need help.

I work at Admiral Toys/The Toy HQ, and being put in charge of ordering Corgi and Hobby Master for the store. I would like y'alls input on what will sell and won't sell, because the last thing I want to do is lose that job because I ordered something that doesn't sell. And if so of y'all have been wondering why I've been getting planes for very or for very cheap lately is because I work there now so .

Re: I need help.

Well for starters make sure you have alot of Skyraiders when they come out....Lots of people are waiting on that one along with the SBD in 1:18.
I think the HM Phantoms will be a good seller too.
Corgi has a few good ones as well such as the new Friday the 13th Halifax.

You couldn't have said it better about the 1/18 stuff! The new CL-13, Hartman, should be here pretty soon. I've been told the Skyraider and SBD should be around Christmas, but hopefully sooner. I will keep y'all posted on anything that gets passed down to me. On that note, the F-4 prototype was in, I didn't see it, but I have seen the fuel tank and it was about a footlong, so I can't wait till I see that in person.

Re: i need help

Sam,
I think all retailers would love to have the magic crystal ball as to what sells and what doesn't, but if you can pick and choose top sellers, here is my list:

Corgi 1/72:
Swordfish (any)
B-25 Mitchell
Halifax (big bombers sell- period)
And the upcoming Battle of Britain stuff for 2008 should be very popular.

Hobby Master 1/72:
SBD Dauntless
F6F Hellcat
Skyhawk
A-10
(upcoming Phantom should be a huge hit)
Stukas

What I suggest (and it depends on your customer base) is get some of the popular planes (allied stuff typically appeals to veterans) like the Hellcat, Mustang, Spitfire to suck in customers, then hit them with the unique one-offs..

And BTW, Century Wings stuff rarely sits on the shelf...

That's what I had in mind and I talked to the owner about Century Wings and we are getting those, so I'm excited. So really just stick to airshow planes and order a small amount of the "other" things and see how they do?

Re: i need help

If you might want to consider some Axis aircraft in your selection too. Have a feeling that there might be some scale model builders out there that purchase diecast. Also not sure that majority of collecters only go with Allied aircraft models, just something to think about.

I'd certainly make sure of a good representation of RAF and Luftwaffe aircraft. For example Corgi's Battle of Britain HE-111s, BF-110s JU-87Bs ,JU-88s, etc---especially the new stuff coming out in 2008 and ditto for the C-47 , Mosquito and Blenheim, etc. Aside from a Corgi or Dragon ME-262A, I'd go slow on the older stuff, however, until you get a better feel of the interests of your customer base.

Re: i need help

With HM coming out with the Kate, might want to consider Japanese aircraft also. Should expect a few more of the Kates and have my fingers crossed for them maybe putting out the Val.

I agree about the Axis planes...... German aircraft always seem to sell well....Japanese aircrafts are starting to show up a little more with HM Kate in the works...I would also like to see a Val made.
