Revell F-14a Jolly Roger Pics

Mates i said i would post a Revell 1:72 F-14A Jolly Rogers when i had a chance to find one. These are very hard to find by the way.
It's not a bad aircraft overall. These also do not have the pilots.

Re: Revell F-14a Jolly Roger Pics

Do you still like the FOV better? Would like some thought on how the two compare. Unless, did you do that on another thread?

Don't forget the targets are my airfields, Leigh-Mallory, and you're not getting fifty, you're not even getting ten.

Re: Revell F-14a Jolly Roger Pics

The Revell is more lighter then the FOV F-14.
I like the Jolly Rogers marking on the F-14.
The stand is so-so on the revell so i took it off and used a FOV extra stand i had and it's much better.
The Molds of Revell and FOV are close to being the same. You have to remember the Revell F-14 came out in 2002 or 2003 thats what the box says.
All in all i like the FOV is better it looks and feels heavy.
But the Jolly Rogers Graphics on the Revell are great.
This Jolly Roger looks to be from the early 1990's during the Desert storm era.The Jolly Rogers VF-84 was deactivated on Sept 29,1995.

The Revell looks great!

I think that the scheme is from VF-84's first cruise in 1978, though. VF-84 shifted from Nimitz to Roosevelt in 1988, so it predates Desert Storm. In addition, you have the white underside from the 1970s, which was phased out in favor of the all-gray scheme by 1979.

Re: Revell F-14a Jolly Roger Pics

I thought i saw this same tomcat in "The Final Countdown" movie.
I know they would do little things to the tail area one year then the next year another change to their tomcat paint design.
This is a really cool paint job on that tomcat.
One of the best.
Today the Jolly Rogers is VMA-100 and i need to get one of them too.

Re: Revell F-14a Jolly Roger Pics

I also have the Revell F-14 Jolly Rogers. JP is right, the paint scheme is great. However, the seam running horizontally along the nose on my model looks wider than JPs, but hard to tell on the pics. The seam is glaring to me and detracts from the model. Also, there are several ugly screw heads (about 6) on the underside -- one right under the nose which is very noticable, even when not on the stand and one each under the elevators which are also very noticable. The gun port isn't as detailed as I would like either. I paid a steep price for mine because I wanted the VF-84 Jolly Rogers scheme (I had a plastic one as a kid); however, despite the great scheme, I wish I could have seen it up close first, I probably would not have bought it. I have the FOV on order, so I can't compare the two yet. Maybe some food for thought for those of you considering buying it--especially if you have to pay as steeply as I did (I think with shipping I paid more than $50.00).

Elmer,
I think the FOV F-14 Jolly Roger is the old mold.
The BlackKnights F-14 is the first of the new molds for FOV.
The old molds from what i understand was not very good and the new molds were a big improvement.
