Help about Authentic Models?

I am very much tempted to purchase this model for a X'mas gift, but I do not know much about the product and the company that produces it. First impressions from looking at a picture sometimes is not enough for me to be convinced, so I would appreciate reading some feedback or information regarding it's quality and construction if you do own one yourself. I got this from Joe Pilot ad. Thanks.

Description

Tommy Sopwith’s Endeavour Reading up on the history of the America’s Cup I stumbled across the Sopwith name. To invest $400,000 in the middle of the Great Depression and build a Cup challenger, one needs capital. Turns out the Sopwith planes were highly successful at downing enemies in the Great War. Sopwith Camels were responsible for shooting down around 1,300 German planes during WWI. In the hands of experienced pilots they were good for close combat. The Sopwith Camel and Sopwith Pup were famous and popular planes, their exploits and successes good for filling newspapers and magazines of the day. Sopwith himself became rich, and decided to take on the USA, less violently, but with the same dedication.

I picked up the Spirit of St. Louis a few years back. I like the models ... you can judge for yourself ...

Re: Help about Authentic Models?

Welcome to the forum, Presidential! So, is it 'boxers' or 'briefs'?

Thanks for the pictures of your SOSL. It looks very nice and detailed. Curious, is the skin made of sheet metal?

Re: Help about Authentic Models?

My dad hasthebig version of this. It was expensive, like $350 I think...

It's great. The construction is awesome. Leather and wood. Real aluminum. I'm no Camel expert and there may be flaws but the impression it makes is fantastic. He has his hanging from the ceiling. If he didn't have it, I'd get it. I like the Fokker EIII monoplane they make as well.

Re: Help about Authentic Models?

I have the Fokker D VII, and it does have two MAJOR flaws. The two maching guns are raised off of the fuselage around 1/4 inch, and even worse, the top wing is entirely TOO high off the fuselage. The former could be fixed if I wanted to, but not much to be done on the latter.

I saw a few others at an airshow. Even though they attracted me in many ways, I did see flaws in them. I will say, however, a Camel was not amongst them, and the pic does look good.
