Re: More Diecast Seaplanes and Flying Boats Anyone?

The rumor of the Altaya Duck is interesting Ron

The latest list of Planeta DeAgostini Mythical Biplanes (updated on 07/09/07) scrapped the Duck!! But the Mitsubishi F1M2 Type Zero Kan (allied code “Pete”) is still holding strong.

That's good. Hope it will be worth it.

They have just posted a picture of the "Pete" ( item #25 ), which doesn't look half bad. Obviously a close up view would be better but this is one I will make it a point to buy.

Talking Re: More Diecast Seaplanes and Flying Boats Anyone?

I love Seaplanes and if Franklin Mint would make them in 1:48 scale, I would buy one of every type they make.

How's the canopy on the F Mint's Zero line? It looks a bit high-riding and not flush with the fuselage.

And of course I'm waiting for an overall light grey or light tan or whatever the farg they were painted...

I'd love to see FM make a PBY and a Kingfisher.

I agree with your sentiment MD, but a Kingfisher is out of Frankin Mint's league. It's got a goodly amount of fine cockpit detail and in my view is best suited for a player in the C1 or especially Eagles International class.

A PBY would be a natural for F Mint; it had many nationalities, many paint jobs, and the Mint does multi-engined planes well.

I agree that C1 or EI would be awsome. Although if FM put the same level of detail work in to the Kingfisher as they did their SBD's, it might be a good model. I think FM is the only one that would tackle a 1/48 PBY.

The canopy of the FM Zero, as well as the Rufe, is exactly as you said! I plan to repaint the canopy on mine to make a little improvement. Other than that, it's a fine model.

Re: More Diecast Seaplanes and Flying Boats Anyone?

The flaotplane that I would most love to see would be the Sikorsky JRS-1, the Grumman Duck and the Arado 190. The JRS-1 particularly since they fought at Pearl Harbor. Not a very distinguished plane, but one of the Pearl Harbor survivors still resides at the Smithsonian. (I know it will never happen, but one can always wish...)

Anything for a weird life.
