Revell Tomcat -- underwhelmed...

Okay, picked up a Revell Tomcat on the 'bay at a great price, out of curiousity sake... my immediate reaction having just opened it is that $20 is wayyyyy to much to pay for this thing....

It feels 100% plastic, there are 7 screws that hold it into its plastic base, the wheels are plastic, the canopy doesn't open, no pilots, and the stabs cant the wrong direction?? There are visible seams on the fuselage joins and where the stabs are connected to the top fuselage... the speed brakes do not deploy... very unimpressed. The more knowledgeable jet-heads out there may be able to tell me why this is a better representation of the tomcat (please do, of so) than the DRagon or Witty efforts but far as model quality goes, this is minor league stuff. (Oh and visible screws on the bottom -- say what? -- four of 'em. If I'd paid $50 for it, I'd really be irked...

Shoulda probably saved the money for a Century Wings, but I'm happy to have it for comparisons sake when I do get the Big One as I have one from everyone else...

Re: Revell Tomcat -- underwhelmed...

Revell actually does 90% of the differences between A, B, and D. Rather than Witty/Dragon, who can't seem to get anything right at all.

Re: Revell Tomcat -- underwhelmed...

Honestly, I didn't know Revell had messed up the stabs. No previous F-14 was worth my money IMHO, so I only own Century. I saved more than enough money over the past few years by not buying Dragon/Witty to fund my Century ones. Don't settle for poor models. I mean, Dragon's first F-14 release was my avatar, but I still passed on it since it was a sucky model. And now I can buy Century's.

Thumbs up Re: Revell Tomcat -- underwhelmed...

Thanks for the insights PappyB. I've always wondered about Revell diecast. Thank goodness my curiosity never got the better of me!

Just messing with ya a tad David The stabs on my model definitely lean a bit inward, looks like the exact amount they should lean outwards... since they are plastic I was able to bend them a bit to look right

I mainly got it to add a revell category to my web site, and I like have a mix of the same models from diffferent makers -- will make me appreciate that Century when I finally do decide on a livery as I intend on having just one... really I do, if that's possible.
