Re: AIRCRAFT: Best 1:72 P-40 mold?

Jim,
Hey there sir.

Well, I'm glad that I haven't become completely predictable in my old age.

I do LOVE the Corgi P-40's, don't get me wrong. Other than the black and orange bird, I've got them all (Yes, I'll probably break down and get the Stud even if its errors irk me,) and have 4 of them here on the desk next to me.

However, that open engine cowling and the fact that FOV's bird represents a flyer from Delaware (Which I called home for about 15 years) won me over.

Does that mean that I will not pick up every Corgi bird? Hell no, I'm getting them all and loving everyone of them!

Hi djeffhall my aviation connoisseur,

Keep grabbing those Corgis. The prices are not bad and they make a good model. I like the FOV P40 and I wish they would bring out some more. I too was seduced by the cool engine under those panels. I wish Corgi would do something like that, heck it aint rocket science.

Aw come on buddy the Stud isnt that bad, I bought one and it certainly stands out!!!!!! It sort of grows on you after a while and its a great conversation piece.
I bought the Les Jackson one about 3 months ago off ebay and I think its one of the best. I like the Dark earth scheme.
Hey didnt the British have problems around Delaware some time ago? Well our Queenie is over there at the moment I wonder if she has found any good diecast stores?
I did a quick check and I think there are about another 4 or 5 P40s I have to pick up yet, so I shall trawl around ebay and see whats on offer.

Its a shame Matchbox are not doing anything they did make a very good version of the P40. Like I said not much between them FOV and Corgi.
BTW I bought the Russain Easy model, Can't believe I bought a plastic version but there you go.( they got the canopy and general dimensions pretty good which was a surprise)
I am planning my P40 display cabinet with lights and maybe some sort of backdrop, not sure about that yet, time will tell.

God Bless America.

Re: AIRCRAFT: Best 1:72 P-40 mold?

I voted for the "Other" to highlight the omission of the Easy Model P40s. I like the EM P-40B, although the EM P-40E does not seem quite right. The only other P-40 mold I have is the Matchbox and it is pretty nice but I like gear down.

Ron -
Good point. I left out the easy models because I was thinking diecast (metal) when I posted the poll. I just noticed that I didn't put the word "diecast" in any part of the original post/poll.

Take care,
