That's the most attractive pic I've seen of the F-22 yet..I have to admit it really doesn't look too bad here (imagine how smokin' an F-15 would look in that scheme!) and I'm hoping that it will grow on me. I'm certain that one day I'll even have the diecast..However, this will be one of the rare pieces that I display "gear up"...It just looks ridiculous on the ground (especially Gaincorp's rendition of it. They should have sent it over to the guys at FM/Armour to sit on the nose )

I believe all F-22's from serial numbers 00-xxx and up have the metallic paint. (Some 99-xxx were renumbered 00-xxx, but it's hard to track some of the 99 series) And with F-22's especially, serial number fiscal year has little relevance to actual production year.

PS--there was an F-15 painted in that paint as a test before the F-22's got it, but pics are almost non-existant, and I don't have any. It's anti-IR paint BTW, made by Dupont.

I have to admit that, initially, I liked the look of the YF-23 more than the YF-22. Now I really like the look of the F-22 - it grows on you over time.

The F-22 is not ugly at all, those who don't like it are just a bit too nostalgic...planes don't need to be covered by rivets and panel lines, have lots of weapons dangling under the wings, naked ladies or cartoon characters on the nose and tail, full technicolor insignia....!

That's not why I don't like it. I don't like it because I think it looks bland and boring with absolutely no character whatsoever. That said, it still looks better than the F-35.

As an aside, nothing will ever beat the X-32 in ugliness (even though the British, especially, have made some pretty ugly airplanes in the past! Which is interesting because they also made the Spitfire, one of the best-looking airplanes ever...).
