Re: $$$$- How Much Do You Spend A Month On Diecast

Well, the last couple of years, when I first started up, I was probably in the over $200.00 a month category. Now, I'm well under that, and try to limit my purchases to absolutes. I probably now only spend $50.00 every couple of months, with some months completely dry. Being in an DINK household in an affordable city, with a very good paying job, I found myself buying whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. eBay was my downfall for sure, and have stayed away from there for many months now. With outstanding debts, and a house renovation, I've come to realize that I should be getting my "house" in order before spending thousands of dollars on a hobby.

I guess I'm living vicariously through you big buyers, and applaude you whole-heartedly. I love this hobby, and plan to continue participating for many years to come. In fact, I hope to liquidate my sizeable comic collection to fund further purchases. I also hope to move some pieces that I really don't need, or want, to free up some buying power.

Anyways, good thread, thanks for the chance to participate.

Average of late has been in the $100-200 range, this month has blown it with a couple of 1/32 Hurries & that nice Grumpy Spit.

You and I are quite similar, Schrage, but in my case it is/was the liquidation of baseball cards, performance cars/parts and (to a lesser degree) comics. The baseball cards stay because they are my sons when they hit that phase but the other stuff is out the door.

I can't say for sure. Last years purchases exceeded $ 2000 +. To date, around $ 600+. I will attempt to keep it to $ 1200 this year.

Re: $$$$- How Much Do You Spend A Month On Diecast

As I've stated elsewhere, I've been trying to cut back. $200.00 a month comes out to $2500.00 a year (Rounded off) which sounds huge, but really isn't. With the plethera of new brands (Hobby Master, Gemni and Admiral) all gearing towards what the fanatic (Like us) wants, it harder and harder to say what is "merely" essential.

Do I really need every Duantless made? Of course, just like I need every P-40 made. Then there is the thrill of getting one of each of the new types produced and then DAMN!!!!, that third third of fourth livery down the line is REALLY AMAZING and so on.....

So far this year, I've only made one small ($60.00) diecast purchase, but I've had another $500.00 is pre-orders get filled which has dominated my time and available enjoyment room. (I can only really have so many planes on my desk at one time. Anything else gets stored or diplayed "out of sight". Also, I can only do so much "cat strafing" in one week.)

Of course soon, we'll see SOMEONE do a big tax-refund sale, in addition to all the birds I haven't bought as I'm cutting back which will get tacked onto orders here and there, etc.

Anything for a weird life.

I've spent maybe $1000 at most over a two year period, last 6 months has been almost nil.

Re: $$$$- How Much Do You Spend A Month On Diecast

During a normal month, I try to stay under $40/month - pretty much one model. I do, however, splurge a little more on myself at Christmas and my birthday! I have also gotten sucked in once or twice at Tuesday Morning and TFM for $100 or so...

Oh yeah, I also bought and modified two IKEA cabinets to the tune of $130 each - don't forget the peripherals!

Averages out to around $700-800/year the last few years - still cheaper than beer and golf (don't forget your rationalizations!)

Beer & diecast are not mutually exclusive ( that's what I tell my beloved anyway)

In family budgeting terms, diecast is under the 'investment' column, beer is under the 'attitude adjustment' column. Golf of course is under the 'Who gets the time' column

Re: $$$$- How Much Do You Spend A Month On Diecast

I've just re-looked at all my receipts from diecast dealers (and e-bay) for the last three months, and it's over $1000.00 if you include the postage. But that's definitely over average, and I need to calm down. Can't continue at this pace. I think becoming a member of this forum may have had some influence (all the great pictures and recommendations, the enthusiasm, you know...).

Now, is that good, or bad? Who knows...

Not only do I refuse to answer that question, I refuse to know the answer to that question.
