GEAR UP/DOWN: Profiles in diecast - Poll 5

Last edited by DADoser : 03-19-2007 at 06:00 PM. Reason: added content
I display the majority of my collection....

(Read the "gear up..." option also as "on the stand" - as some models come only gear down, but with a stand option. And with the perspective added by FormerViperDriver in his reply. Thanks.)

Re: GEAR UP/DOWN: Profiles in diecast - Poll 5

I'd say my gear down/gear up percentages are approximately 85% and 15% respectively (actually, a few of my models are on stands, but gear down, in "landing configuration" so to speak).

Part of it is that a good portion of my collection is FM/Armour, and you don't have much of a choice there. But I would still prefer gear down anyway.

Mixed. About 50/50. Well, for the military stuff anyway. Only the Dragon Wings civies can go gear-up (the AeroClassics and Gemini Jets are all gear-down-only jobbies).

Re: GEAR UP/DOWN: Profiles in diecast - Poll 5

I'm 50/50. However, I will say that having the option of gear up and gear down features are paramount in mind for purchases. I often rotate my birds in and out of boxes, but I also rotate them in and out of flight.

Anything for a weird life.

My preference is "gear down" even when it's mounted on its stand. My logic is that when you remove the diecast from it's stand you should be able to lay it down on a surface.

For me, it depends on the stand. I decided to paint a Dragon warbird stand white to see how well it blends in with the wall. I love clear plastic stands (i.e. FOV and Century Wings). In the proper light conditions, the stands are barely noticeable.

Mostly gear down flying or on the shelf.

Re: GEAR UP/DOWN: Profiles in diecast - Poll 5

I usually don't display my collection. But when I do, whether the gear is up or down depends on 2 factors:
1) Does the model give me this option? Matchbox, Corgi Warbirds, and some IXO models really don't allow for this so the planes are usually gear up on a stand. HobbyMaster, Dragon, Aviation Archive Corgis are gear down.
2) Is there a pilot? I hate planes in flying mode with no pilot. Sorry for being blunt here, but that has got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever encountered. I paint my canopies so the models look like a mahogany desktop model. I'd love to be able to buy some pilots but I can't see spending $24.00+ for a plastic model just to get a pilot figure.

Doing what you want is freedom; doing what you like is happiness.

Re: GEAR UP/DOWN: Profiles in diecast - Poll 5

Only have a small part of my collection displayed at the moment about 40 or so and only 2 are wheels down, the rest are up and in flight. The only reason that they are down on there wheels is that they are Witty's .
