Re: Just started ... recommendations for my collection?

I'd really like some recommendations for Japanese Warbirds that woul dlook good with the Corsairs.

In 1/72 your Japanese choices are somewhat limited. You basically have a bunch of Zeros and a few one offs from IXO. Starting with the Zeros you can find them from Corgi, Dragon, Witty, IXO, and Forces of Valor. The general opinion seems to be that Dragon and Witty have the best ones. The FOV line only has a single copy of a Pearl Harbor Zero but if you can find it at your local Target it is only $10 or $11 and worth picking up.

To get a suitable partner for a Corsair I'd suggest the Witty Zeros. If you are thinking Solomons era try their A6M3 available in both Model 32 with clipped wings and Model 22 with full wing tips. They also have several A6M5 versions to chose from. You can find them for $15 or less if you look around. Downside is that they come gear down only. I have the green clipped wing A6M3 Model 32 and it is excellent.

I don't have any of the Dragon Zeros so can't comment on them.

IXO models tend to be hit or miss but it seems most of their Japanese planes are pretty good. At the moment from IXO you can probably find the Grace torpedo bomber and fighters Tony, George, Oscar, and Frank. I have the Grace and the Oscar. The Grace is quite good, the Oscar I find less so due to the paint job.

Turbowolf, I fully agree with the admin....Buy what makes YOU happy. You can find great pictures at The Flying Mule, an online diecast seller. They provide great service. Also, one of our own, Tim, has an online site that has great pictures of Corgi aircraft.

And, finally, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

PS Tim's site is Unofficial Corgi Aviation Archive, and his sister website, Twin Plane Home Page

Re: Just started ... recommendations for my collection?

Turbowolf,
Welcome aboard.

Japanese birds are hard to come by. IXO is about the only choice outside of the Zeke. Dragon does an excellent Zero in several liveries. The new Forces of Valor are also really good.

I highly recommend the Hobby Master Dauntless. Or anything else Hobby Master for that matter. The Gemini warbirds are also pretty fine planes, but you only have three European airplanes (P-51B, Spitfire and ME-109) at this time.

Most of the recent Corgi offerings are might pretty. They include the Catalina you have on your list as well as the Swordfish and Gladiator, which might not be your thign as they are, again, European theater. The P-38 is getting rave reviews also.

Re: Just started ... recommendations for my collection?

But you just can't have a respectable diecast collection without P40s.

I SAY YOU JUST CAN'T HAVE A RESPECTABLE DIECAST COLLECTION WITHOUT P40s,

If you got the Japanese you need the P40S,

I SAY IF YOU GOT THE , ok I think you got the message. (how about the esteemed Carousel P40 or the FOV P40 or even the Corgi P40s are good. Hey Matchbox are pretty cool. I gottem coming out my ears!! I love em, great aeroplanes, real cool heavy metal man.

Re: Just started ... recommendations for my collection?

As I scan my collection for inspirations on recommendations.....

GA P-51B 'Ding Hao'
Dragon warbird F-16s (I have four and are the best Dragons I have)
Corgi B-17G '2nd Patches'
Corgi P-38 'Marge'

Don't do what BDE tells you to do. Do what BDE would want you to do.

Helvetian and wit (like Celtic and charm) - surely there's a contradiction in there somewhere...?

Actually Shamrock I share some of that Celtic heritage, having some Scottish ancestors .

(By the way Jim, no Swiss heritage to speak of..."Ah jes like 'em purty colors on that there flag - y'hear?")
