hey cavtanker love that pic!! I have a peace of berlin wall that a friend brought me back when he visted germany when the wall frist came down, so I guess that is one of the cooliest things that I own on that topic. I collect books on top of airplane and tank diecast, have about 70 world war two books on everything from tanks to planes but my fav is collecting books on d-day. I have about 16 books on d-day alone and it is growing all the time lol.

Re: So you collect diecast airplanes...

Thanks, tank nut. I doubt we'll hear anyone complain about the Berlin Wall being torn down. I certainly don't think Saddam will complain about me having a piece of his house.

Re: So you collect diecast airplanes...

Have 5 Robert Taylor prints, favorites are "Memphis Belle" and Johnny Johnson leading 144 Canadian wing over Normandy,... both double signed... signed for sale, and signed specifically to me. Also collect Canadian Naval Art... have a few limited edition prints by Pat Burstall and David Trethewey.
Won an auction in Toronto about 20 years ago,.... got prints of US Carriers, Enterprise 1960's, Hornet 1940's, and Enterprise 1940's.... all Builders prints.
Have print of Edmund Fitzgerald as she sits today, signed by all Canadian Navy crew members, National Geographic reporters/filmakers and self who dived on her in 1995 to raise and replace her bell. Also have some taconite pellets that comprised her cargo.
Lots of Navy memorabilia, including jacket and shoulder flash from USS Enterprise in 1994 when I did short cruise with her. Various bits n pieces of aircraft memorabilia. Lots of navy ships caps and badges. Cup and saucer from Admiral's lounge at NAS Norfolk. Various been there, done that, stuff hanging on walls.
Kisbee ring (life preserver, painted, from HMCS Cormorant) sort of thing ships display when they are in port visiting.
Have been collecting aviation books, especially biographies, signed when I could get them, for about 30 + years. Lots of movies, especially Brit.

Some of the highlights of a lifetime of collecting and "sticky fingers"

Re: So you collect diecast airplanes...

I collect, of course, aviation books, also ones on submarines. Have some pictures of airplanes, though none of these exclusive, high cost prints some have. I have a strip of fabric from an early Bleriot (spelling? don't currently have access to my books to check), and a star on fabric that my Grandparents hung in the window while my Dad was in the service late in WW II. Also have a few signed pics of flyers from WW II, along with two signed books.

Perhaps my most prized possessions are two letters, a signed autobiography, and a signed picture from Eddie Rickenbacker. All but the book are personally signed to me, and while one of the letters is probably a form letter, the other is personal, in answering some questions about the color and pattern of camoulage of his Spad that I had asked.

Re: So you collect diecast airplanes...

If you are reading this, chances are you collect diecast airplanes (or tanks). I know that several board members also collect aviation art and books. Does anyone collect any other type of aviation memorabilia or toy? I have most of the Hallmark "Sky's the Limit" ornaments, and I have a lot of MicroMachine airplanes as well. What about the rest of you?

Anything related to Military Aviation wether be it diecasts, memorabilias, militaria, equipment, books, magazines, DVDs etc...you name it I have it, well almost anything that strikes my fancy these days!

Re: So you collect diecast airplanes...

I am glad I collect diecast airplanes and not baseball cards, though I wouldn't mind to have one of "Honus"...
