Re: Future Releases

My 2 cents:

P-38 (can't have enough)
Late Mark Spitfires (still amazed Corgi has missed the boat on this one)
Helldiver
Me-410
Hawker Tempest

P-80
P-82

F-100
F-105
F-106
F-4 E/F/G

F8 Crusader
A-6 Intruder
A-7 Corsair II

I'd have to buy at least one of each.

Re: Future Releases

How about some X-planes and some '30s racers?? All in 1/72 please

I'd buy these in a heart-beat. We need some X-Planes for sure. The X-1 & 1A and X-15s (two most recognizable & ground-breaking aero technologies: sound barrier breaker and space plane) have at least two variants each that could be made. I would also like to have the X-29 in diecast form. Oh boy, there's lots of X-Planes that are most certainly deserving to be immortalized in diecast.

Re: Future Releases

A relative of mine had the good fortune so he says of never having to work on these. He told me he never understood why it got past the drawing board. Those that did work on it said the following about it, It was difficult to work with, impossibly underpowered, very unreliable, feeble undercarraige fixings. Pilots said it was unresponsive and prone to dropping a wing and diving without warning. It had a dreadfull climb rate and taking off was a hit and miss affair. More than one Barracuda went off the end of the deck and straight into the sea.A Griffin was tried in later models to increase the power which I believe caused even greater handling problems. The tail was enlarged and the wings made longer to try to improve things. I think that the Barracuda served in the far east with the Americans over Sumatra but I could be wrong? Most of the production of these beasts was the basic MK11 about 1650 being built. A further 850 Mk111s being built. The only good thing to say about this aircraft is that it gave the Navy a nice big plane to use for their ASV radar trails I think here was a great poem written about it that was published in either the Aeroplane magazine or Flypast (I cant remember which, I will try to find it). I take your point though, I had the Airfix kit of this and I was struck by the fact that it was such old technology even for those times. As for the Albacore, he had plenty of praise for this one. Safe reliable and easy to work with although well obsolete soon after it came out. I wish my old pal was still with us, he would have loved the Hanger and could have given a huge amount of first class info to all us addicts. I just wish I had written down all he told me. I too am a fan of naval aviation and would like to see some of the more obscure types done in diecast, How about a Brewster Bermuda? A Curtiss Seamew or Seahawk. The Vengeance A31 is an interesting one and it served in both US and British navies.
Since my main interest in things that fly off carrier decks it fits my criteria. If we are only going to get models of successful planes that is going to limit many of the choices listed in this thread! Realistically the Devastor wasn't any great combat success. That reminds me- we need a Vindicator too.

But you have to admit it is an interesting looking plane. If you want to have the full line of FAA torpedo aircraft then we need an Albacore and a Barracuda. There were over 2600 built and they served in 23 squadrons. Most notable action was the April 3, 1944 attack on the Tirpitz. You can easily get 3-5 liveries out of the airframe. They served into the 1950s and reportedly there are no surviving aircraft.

Re: Future Releases

Jim, the Barracuda was most famous for a mass dive-bombing attack on the Tirpitz laying in a Norwegian fjord on April 3, 1944. 42 Barracudas launched from six carriers escorted by 80 fighters - Seafires, Wildcats and Corsairs. They scored fifteen hits with AP bombs. Three were lost plus one fighter. They made two further attacks on the Tirpitz a few weeks later.

Initial Barracuda ops were as part of the Salerno landings in Italy in Sept 1943 while operating from HMS Illustrious.

The Illustrious later, April 1944, moved to the South Pacific and the Barracudas were in action against Japanese targets in Sumatra.

It would make a great model as it later was reactivated with the RNVR with the grey upper surfaces and duck egg belly etc., so there are color scheme choices. There were lots of modifications too which could easily be done.

Apart from Fairey building 1,192 at two locations, Blackburns built 700 at Brough and Boulton Paul built 682. A friend here in RBG worked on them at Brough as an apprentice.

I'd also like to see:-

A-20 Boston, B-26 Marauder, Baltimore, A-26 Invader, F-82 Twin Mustang
Beaufort, Anson, Oxford, Whitley, Hampden, Late mark Spitfires.
T-6/Harvard, Miles Master, Martinet, Stearman PT-17
F-100, F-102, F-106, F-106.
F-4M, F-4N, Seahawk, Scimitar, Gannet
Tiger, Panther, Cougar, Crusader, A-7, A-3D Skywarrior, P2V Neptune. Bearcat

Now all I need is another display case!

Re: Future Releases

One Barracuda story I read was that they were loosing a lot of planes without any known reason- even aircraft with experienced pilots. Couldn't figure out why. Was eventually traced to a hydralics leak. The most likely place for a leak was the connection to the pilot's pressure guage. The resulting crack would spray hydralic fluid into the pilot's face. The fluid contained ether and the pilots were simply passing out. The solution was to install oxygen masks in all the Barracudas and order them to be used at all time.

Re: Future Releases

Val, Kate
T-6, Stearman
B-26, A-26

All 1/72

And I would like to second Admin's comments:

"Oh, by the way tell Hobby Master to stop inking the D*** panel lines. Diecast panel lines are exaggerated enough in size. I appreciate them taking some cues from other manufactures, but IXO should not be one of those sampled. I'm a little disgusted by what I've seen on the new George Bush Avenger."

Re: Future Releases

1/72:

F-8 Crusader. And not just the E! The A/B/C/D/H/K/L/M all used the "standard" nose, only the E and J had the bulged nose. Though the E does allow for a lot of schemes.

F-111, any.

SR-71: plenty of schemes over in the Hobby Master forum thread about it.

YF-23! Only one scheme for each version, but it's the coolest-looking plane ever built. The B-2 and F-117 also only have one scheme, but they sell because of how interesting they look.

F-15E done right!

Navy attackers:
RA-5C
A-6E
A-7E (and USAF A-7D versions)

Would love to have but probably never will:

F-20
X-29
