WWI Planes

I am an armor guy, and shouldn't even be asking this question, but, I do like planes. My problem is that I've got ca. 150 tanks, but I would like to have "some" planes. Here's my thinking: I haven't seen many WWI planes at webstores, so, since it appears that not many are made, maybe I should try WWI planes. I love the Dragon WWII 1/72 planes, but I want them all! No can do. I've got to choose - "my wife," or "planes." I think I can keep my wife, if I don't "push the envelope" with the planes. So, how about a few WWI planes? Just a few. Does anyone make 1/72 WWI planes? What can you recommend? Thanks, and Happy Holidays.

Re: WWI Planes

Well Copland, on the 1/72 WWI birds I don't know of any - not that they don't exist rather I simply don't know about them. Matchbox made a very fine series of 1/48 aircraft which are similar in size to 1/72 WWII birds. Corgi is releasing their line of 1/48 WWI birds in 2007 which I eagerly await based on the quality of the Swordfish. Finally, there are the Carousel 1 models. I don't own any of the WWI models but I have a few of the WW2 versions and they are fantastic.

I would recommend looking for bargains on Matchbox via Ebay or sitting back and waiting for the Corgi offerings in the new year.

Re: WWI Planes

Thanks for the reply. I don't see WWI planes either. I was just wondering. I will eventually purchase a few of the Dragon WWII Warbirds. Just hope I can stop with a few!

Re: WWI Planes

Copland,
I checked with a buddy of mine who collects WWI fighters and he told me there is a company called Boley Corporation that makes 1/72nd WWI fighters also.
Hobbylinc.com is where he gets them from.
I'm not sure how well these are made because i have never seen one.
Hope this helps.

Re: WWI Planes

Thanks for the input, guys. I would like to have the same quality in planes that Dragon has in their tanks. I will check out the info. provided. Another side question. Do the Dragon 1/72 planes come in a plastice display case, like the armor? Thanks.

Nope, no display case...except for their Zero "Akagi", it has it's own little case...they do come with a stand for "in flight" display...beware, they are addictive!
