Best F-14 Tomcat

Just started watching a show on the History Channel about the last F-14 Tomcats being retired. I really want to buy one in 1/72 scale. Suggestions as to the best? Consider accuracy, weapons, scheme and availability. I appreciate the help.

Re: Best F-14 Tomcat

Very cool show! I'm watching it again as I type this. I really like my FOV Tomcat first, then Witty's and Dragon last. I'm not going to elaborate as to who's F-14 is the best (i.e. defining characteristics blah, blah, blah...) as this has been debated/discussed profusely by the 'experts' on this forum!

I would just say buy what you like as long as you will be happy with it.

I recommend the Witty Wings...great detail with a lot of moving parts and sturdy construction...however be aware that the front canopy of the model is unfinished.
Also to consider:
  1. FORCES of VALOR (Latest release...not the 1st issue...that's a toy)
  2. REVELL
  3. DRAGON WINGS
  4. HOGAN (1:80 scale)
Good luck...

Re: Best F-14 Tomcat

Despite the inaccuracies (minor to me) I like the Dragons. The one thing that Revell and FOV (if I remember correctly) missed that really bugs me is the proper outward cant of the tail fins, which I think ruins the look of the model. I'm thinking of adding an FOV due to the glowing reviews and pics some fine gentlemen have been kind enough to supply. The Witty looks good but the canopy would bug me as it is very noticeable. Might wait for the second release that is supposed to fix that.

I'm with flyXwire on this one HotTrap. Get what YOU like! I have two Dragon's, the Jolly Rogers and Vampires. I like them both. I saw the FOV one recently and it's nice too. Good reviews here but so too does Witty.

Re: Best F-14 Tomcat

I just got my first and last Dragon F-14 yesterday. The wings are loose and wobble up and down. There must be a hundred small fiddly bits. There is nose probe, and the landing gear overnight has sagged and looks like it will collapse at any bump or vibration. The Forces of valor F-14 has none of these problems and is my first recommendation. I know nothing of Revell never actually owned or seen one in person but despite visible screw holes I hear they are nice. I would get the FOV one and see if your craving is satisfied. Good luck we all have our own favorites and I know it is confusing.

Re: Best F-14 Tomcat

The Dragon F14 Jolly Rogers was the worst experience I've had to date as regards QC (fit and finish) issues .
