P-51. Chuck Yeager told it to me best. He said it was the cadillac of the fighters".

I agree the P-51 is a sweet bird, but it's only one of hundreds from WWII...how about some variety and please include pics...I'm always looking to add to my collection...

Re: Tell me you're favorite WWII fighter and why...

The P-51 Mustang is my absolute fav.

I remember seeing profile pictures of WW2 fighters back when I was about 5 or 6. Didn't mean all that much to me back then, apart from the fact that they were fighter planes and looked really cool. One particular plane stuck in my head the entire time and it wasn't until I looked into collecting diecast warbirds that I realised it was the Mustang. I think it was the overall shape and in particular the belly scoop that helped me identify the plane and link it to my childhood memory.

Right now, running a very close second is the BF109. The more I read and learn about this fighter the more it grows on me. The fact that it packed so much performance into such a small and compact airframe is simply amazing.

I'll go with the F4U Corsair. I love the gull wings on her. Cool looking bird!

For some reason I don't. Is it from Patton?
