D-Day invasion stripes

Greetings everyone!

Been lurking for quite a while now (there's just so much to read here!) and this is my first post to this forum.

I'd just caught the diecast bug in the past 12 months and one of the themes I'd like to pursue with my collection is aircraft with invasion stripes (both on the upper and undersides of the wing).

So! Any ideas/suggestions on which models are or will soon be available? I currently have 3 Dragons in my collection in this theme: Yeager's P51, the clipped-wing spit, and the Kansas Tornado P47D.

Any help would be most welcome.

Re: D-Day invasion stripes

Welcome to the forum Min.
You will find so many nice Dragon P-51D diecast planes.
Your starting off on the right foot so far...Yeagers Mustang is one of my favorite along with Petie 2nd of John Meyer.
There are a few D-day Striped planes to get.
Are you into just 1/72nd ???
So have fun and have fun on the forum.

Re: D-Day invasion stripes

Funy thing is that on all of the warbirds and models you see, all of the invasion stripes are nice and straight. Kep in mind that they were applied in the middle of the night at the last minute, with rollers! They were not nice and straight. But I agree thatthe neat look is better. They look nicer that way.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Howdy, welcome to the forum

Here's one that I like that no one seems to ever mention >

AA31906 Supemarine Spitfire Mk.VB Scale 1:72
4Q, VCS-7, U.S. Navy (Cruiser Scouting Squadron), June 1944

And here's a link to the famous tricatus site where you can view some great pictures of it >

Re: D-Day invasion stripes

If you can lay hands on the RAF B-25 that's also a good 'un.
I look forward to hearing more from you Min.

Thanks for the replies and the warm welcome!

As the title reads. It's great to be a part of this community.

Yeager's Mustang was the first ever model I got in my diecast collection, and I'm expecting Dragon's BBD and Millie P (G?) in the next week or so.

In answer to a few of your questions so far...

Yes I'm mainly into 1/72nd, although I don't mind the odd 1/32nd here and there. Got the Corgi Flight Line Silver 'Old Crow' from TFM just a couple of weeks ago - couldn't resist!

Will probably try and track down the Corgi AA31906 Spitfire next (thanks Planenuts, and also for the link to Tricatus' site!), not sure how lucky I might get on that front. Canuklehead's RAF B-25 is mighty tempting, but quite pricey...

Am keeping my eyes peeled for the upcoming P-38 lightnings (AA36602 and US36603) on TFM's website. Thinking maybe I should limit myself to fighters at this stage, comments anyone?

Oh and I do realise that as far as realism goes, the stripes are way too neat and straight, but yeah they do look good!

Hey Planenuts,
Why does that spitfire have a German Kill mark on the left side of the pilot behind the cockpit ?
That is a first i have seen that on a Brit spitfire.
They never marked their other spits with kill markings.
Unless that was the VCS-7 US Navy Aviators ?

It is an American pilot! A NAVY pilot They were used by VCS-7, U.S. Navy (Cruiser Scouting Squadron). They did recon and gun spotting on D-Day. And here's the real plane >

Re: D-Day invasion stripes

That has got to be the only spitfire with a german kill marking on it too.
I passed this up a few months ago thinking it didn't look right...
By the way Min there are new 1:72 Gemini Aces Spitfires and Mustangs in the D-Day Invasion marking too.
