| Biplanes, Give Me More Biplanes I don't know about you guys but I love biplanes. I've got a bunch of WW I diecasts plus Corgi's Gladiator and Swordfish and Model Power's Fiat CR-42. Coming soon from Altaya (deAgostini ) will be post WW I entries like the I-15, HS-123, Fiat CR-32 and 42, Mitsubishi F1M2 ( "Pete" ) and, I hope, a Curtiss Hawk III----albeit with QC problems that will need correcting. I also fill in with kit-makes like the HE-51 and I-153, but aligning the wings is a pain, so I prefer ready-made diecast for this category. Do you make it a point to seek out diecast biplanes? If so, which ones are on your wishlist? | |||||||||||||

| Re: Biplanes, Give Me More Biplanes I seek out just about any good biplane, especially WW I. I have put together plastic models of a Fokker D VII and Nieuport 17. I have not purchased the C1 "flyboys" models as I prefer the real thing (and also they do not have the wires as the other C1 WWI aircraft), but have most of the other's available in 1:48. I also have an Albatros and Se5a on pre-order with the Mule (this may be foolish, but I couldn't wait to get my grubby little hands on them). I too have a Swordfish and Gladiator. PS When I say "most other models," I often mean one representation, ie one Nieuport 11, one Fokker Dr I from C1. I cannot afford to get them all. I do have a number of MP 1:48 Dr I's, as I was able to get them cheaply. I also have both Matchbox Spad's, they are tops! | |||||||||||||

| Re: Biplanes, Give Me More Biplanes I see that the deAgostini website has now posted a picture of the Curtiss Hawk III in Nationalist Chinese markings. The picture is pretty small but it is encouraging to see that this rare bird is on the way to biplane collectors. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Biplanes, Give Me More Biplanes I am absolutely coo-coo for bi-planes. I have all of the Matchbox and Model Power versions. I have the Hallmark legends in Flight Guynemere Spad. I have a di Agostini Boeing PT-17 in US Army training colors. I have 2 Carousel 1 Fokker DR.1's and a Nieuport 11 also from C1. I also abstain from "Flyboy's" movie planes as they are not authentic. Why did C1 not give us a non-movie version of the Nieuport 17? Not understood. I plan on getting the Red Corgi Albatross and the other with the lozenge camo. It will be hard to afford others so 2 will probably do it. I do not understand why Corgi did not give us a regular green SE-5a except in the over-priced dogfight set. Oh well perhaps later. The ones with the blue don't excite me personally. The mother of all bi-planes I would love to see C1 do would be the fokker DVII. If corgi did them I would not complain. I have several Swordfish and a Gladiator. Corgi certainly did bi-planes right. In my book corgi and C1 own the 1/48 bi-plane circuit. I really look forward to seeing some sopwith Camels too. I do hope C1 will correct the over-sized glossy non-descript pilots. MORE BI-PLANES PLEASE! As much as I love them I could not get any more Altayas(1 was plenty) as even a diecast addict like myself has standards ya know. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Biplanes, Give Me More Biplanes The inter war years produced some stunning aircraft that I feel would have some commercial (diecast) sense if the Gladiator and Swordfish are anything to go by. World War 1 just too many potential stunners to mention. Hawker Hart/Demon /Fury in all their 1930's colourful livery Bristol Bulldog Fiat CR 32/42 (Spanish Civil War) Fairy Albacore Ar 68 Supermarine Walrus Polikarpov 1-15/-153 (Spanish Civil War) HE-51 (Spanish Civil War)* *Just finished reading Antony Beevor's updated 'The Battle For Spain'. It is an awesome read once you can get past the huge number of acronyms that describe the huge number of participants on both sides. The book demonstates very clearly that Fascism and Communism were, and are a huge threat to civilised people. The inhumanity on both sides is appalling. Highly recommended reading for those interested in WW2. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Biplanes, Give Me More Biplanes I really like the Gladiators and Swordfish from Corgi. I haven't yet ventured into WWI aircraft so I would prefer to stick to WWII planes. One biplane that sticks out for me is the Grumman Duck. That way Folgore you have both the biplane and seaplane. | |||||||||||||
