Re: Main war of interest

For me it will always be WWII. My collection certainly mirrors my interest. Korea and Vietnam also are of interest. One should note the ungratefulness of the Chinese who forgot the allies help in wwII and assisted the N. Koreans in their effort to overrun S.Korea. Dishonourable mention also to the Russians. Swoop.

Hm, in 1949, china was taken over by communists, thaz y they supported N. Korea. It was in their interest to defend N. K at da time... some regime that now is a barking mad dog.

Re: Main war of interest

From the selections there I'd go with World War II but I would consider any cold war relic of equal importance to me

Re: Main war of interest

I love all history, but my favorite is WWII.

My second passion is the American Civil War. I'm a history geek throughout.

Yes, me too! I used to be in a Civil War Reenactment group while I was in the USAF stationed at Maxwell AFB (Montgomery, Alabama) back in 1984-1986. Was in the TV Mini-series also "North & South Part II" which the battle sceans were shot at a farm in Natchez, Mississippi back in November, 1985.
It was a fun time and even shot a 'yankee' or two!
No heart feelings! It was "War time" for Peat's Sake!

Re: Main war of interest

WW II Pacific Theatre definately, with the ETO a close tie.

Something really strikes us all as WW2 being the last "Good War" even though it was far from the sentimental creature usually portreyed by the latest crop of War films. Read Paul Fussel's Wartime for the true essence of the conflict, its stupidities and absurdities echo today's current era in many ways.

Re: Main war of interest

For me it's just the other way around...

I live in northern europe and planes that flew here are my main interest....so you'll find mostly RAF and USAF 8th and 9th AF in my collection.

That was a great series, I ended up buying the tapes.

Re: Main war of interest

Since I last saw this poll, one more person has voted for WW I. I did, and I know Tri did, who is the third person? (forgive me if I missed a post on it).

Re: The Forgotten War

I have to say Korea. It deserves so much more documentation and discussion than it gets. You want to talk about kids not knowing history today? Ask a kid, heck ask his teacher, about the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. They'll probably tell you that they don't know that much about WWII or Vietnam.

Funny you posted that a few days ago.
Just a little while i go i had to go to my son's school and talk to his History teacher about how well he's doing in class and i said something about the Doollittle Raiders and you know what.....That teacher never heard of them...
I had to tell her who they were..I also let her borrow a book on the subject so she knows.
Oh yea my kid got a A+.
