I've been asking for a thread to check who we think makes the best P51 Mustang in 1/72. Since there were no takers I figured I'd give it a bash myself.

Most of mine are Corgi but due to the influence of this forum am hunting down Dragons and have ordered Gemini Aces.

Given the diversity of views I hope it proves interesting.

Gemini's good, but Dragon's still the king -- can't do a direct comparison but looking at the detail of the molds I still like dragon. Though I lOVE Gemini's easy-fitting small bits

Well now theres a good question, How about Corgi P51s ? Aaaaargh I feel Skunkys pain. The stinky one is spot on when he says Dragon are number one. I took Skunkys advise (shockhorror) and bought one ,yup, but he is correct. When you have both makes side by side you can see how superior the Dragons are.(many thanks for the tip Skunky ). The Dragons are far and away more accurate and have superb fine detail. I still think Corgi make great models but when it comes to P51s Dragon rocks. However if you want the last word on the subject give Skunky a call.

The Dragon Mustang is about as good as it gets. Accurate outline and shape, fine detail......it looks more like a fine scale model

The GeminiAces is hot on it's tail, all the rest are waaaaay behind.

I'll echo everyone's sentiments about Dragon's P-51. I think Aero Art 'Stangs comes in second, imho...then Witty's. Well, Gemini ACES is good only because their P-51s come as the B/C variants. Now if Dragon eventually spits out a B/C variant, then it would most likely 'de-throne' Gemini ACES! Again, just my opinion.

I agree with the others too.Dragon is the best on the market for 1:72 P-51D Mustangs.
The next battle will be who will make the best P-51B & C Mustangs ??
Gemini Aces are the only ones at the moment that makes them and Corgi is right around the corner to release theirs in 2007.
I'm still waiting to see what Dragon will do in 2007....I'm sure they will do a P-51B & C Mustang since the others are.

I still would like to see Dragon do some more "D" Mustangs. I was hoping they would do some 4th FG ones and of course........should we all chime in together...........The Lord is...........

My humblest apologies flyXwire. Aero Art completely slipped my mind. I, in fact have one. Very nice. Yellow & Black checkered tail, Mary Mac, I think.

I like the detailing on the u/c, the treaded tires and moving control surfaces. Even the antenna on the underside. That's where problem comes in. Civilian aerials, two seat cockit. Nah. From MH1 they said the livery was off too.

BTW, I can only ever remember seeing 2 Aero Art Mustangs in 1/72. Were there more?
