Re: Russian Su85 1/72 pre-order $44.95!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow....that is a jaw dropper. With Dragon coming out with the 1/72 kit version of an SU-100 soon the Dragon Armor version won't be far behind. I haven't done my research on the Soviet assault guns but maybe the SU-85, 122, 152 could be made with a small variations to the mold. So that would be effectively 3 Dragon Armor for 1 Admiral.

However, at a quantity of 200 I'd wager they sell out but at 600 I'm not so sure. The Cyber-Hobby Carius Tiger is rumored to have been limited to 500 and retailed originally for approx $18 US. Of course Dragon had several other schemes which paid for the mold. I will say that if I decide to continue buying Admiral, and thats a pretty big if, the model better be absolutely flawless.

Re: Russian Su85 1/72 pre-order $44.95!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope that Admiral does well, and if the run is ca. 200 - 300, they should sell out. However, I spent $42.00 for a Dragon 1/35 Tiger I that I found "on sale." I just can't bring myself to spend that, plus more for a 1/72 tank. I have 3 of the CH limited editions, and the most I paid was $35.00. This Su-85 better be one spectacular issue! I guess we will just have to wait and see. Also, is this going to be the standard practice for their 1/72 line?

Re: Russian Su85 1/72 pre-order $44.95!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will be interesting watching how this plays out. Granted, I really love the Admiral tanks that I currently own. However, $45.00 (plus shipping) is pricing themselves beyond my ability to support them.

Clearly Admiral has come to the conclusion that they cannot break into the "wide scale" general market. Therefore, go the opposite way and cornor the high-end collectors market. It's a wise business move and I'll be curious to see how the current market reacts.

I've seen upcoming 1:72 scale Dragon armor being priced at $25.00, so going twice that for a full metal tank is not that far out of line, if the details and finish are equal or better. Plus, I'm sure that we will see "sale" prices and discounts posted for these so most of us will be able to pick them up for $35.00-ish dollars. If that does in fact come to pass, the question to ask is will you pay $10.00 for metal instead of plastic?

Anything for a weird life.

Especially with regard to their tanks, Admiral is at least a step below Dragon in terms of quality. Instead of jumping ahead of the pack in price, they need to secure their place in the market. They certainly should not be priced above (or even equal to) Dragon or Gaincorp.

Re: Russian Su85 1/72 pre-order $44.95!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem is that the new Admiral tanks will not be mostlyl metal, like their first few issues. They have changed their production method, which, from what I have read, will be very similar to Dragon.

Unfortunately these will be all plastic from what Jason at Admiral Toys announced a month or so ago.

Re: Russian Su85 1/72 pre-order $44.95!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey folks,
I had forgotten that Admiral was changing from all metal to mostly metal. That really will change things for most folks I suspect. Personally, I don't care about metal vs. plastic (Though the metal does have a really nice texture/heft to it.) but for $45.00 you are going to REALLY have to bring a lot to the table.

Thumbs down Re: Russian Su85 1/72 pre-order $44.95!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is way too expensive. Same with the 88 & PAK75. Priced out of my league to be sure!

Re: Russian Su85 1/72 pre-order $44.95!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow and I thought Dragon's price hikes were bad. This is really too much for a mostly metal model. I agree with most people here that Dragon will be releasing the same models soon for most likely half the price of Admiral's. On top of that Dragon's models are extremely well detailed.

Re: Russian Su85 1/72 pre-order $44.95!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course the Dragon 1/72 SU-85 is out now, and very nice it is too. I think the Admiral model has been kicked into touch by Dragon getting there first, I cannot see how they can significantly improve on it and charge double for a plastic model. Are Admiral still intending to produce some SU-85 models ?
