Was listening to the radio yesterday.
Apparently Customs said that they try and intercept this sort of stuff at the boarder (ie ports), but here's the catch there are apparently only 15 inspectors for the entire US. Doesn't take a genius to discover that you can ship any old crap and it will be almost guaranteed to get though.
Also they said the Fisher Price mfg did have a QA system in place to check out these things but the problem was that the sub-contracted manufacturer who built the product was also the one running the QA system and certifying that the goods were safe. Hmm wonder why that failed
