Paper covered plastic WW I fighters In the late 60s and early 70s I worked in New York City and often had lunch with an old friend from grammar school days. He was in the paper products business and at one luncheon meeting he gave two very interesting WW I fighters, 1:72 I think. They were unique: plain white molded fuselage, wings, etc, and came with a paper covering that was cut and trimmed, very carefully, and glued to the model. As I recall, the paper covering, done in appropriate colors/camo, had a high rag content and was very malleable. I put the two models together, after much fussing and complaining, and I was very impressed with the canvas & stick effect created. Not too great in the details department, but pretty to look at. They had to be pre-pro models because I never saw them hit the market. My friend, who was in the paper business not the plastic model business, doesn’t even recall giving me the two models. C’st la Vie. Any of you old timers ever come across such a product? The paper was a bear to apply correctly, but the finished product really looked good. |
