This got a limited release about 6 weeks ago and got a slightly wider release about 2 weeks ago. It's still only playing on about 450 screens around the U.S.
I saw this a couple of weeks ago and its excellent. Based on the true story of the Dieter Dengler, who was a POW very early in Laos before we admitted we were fighting there. The flying scenes are few, but the story is really about the person, not the planes. The last 80% of the film is Dengler in the camp and the escape, which is absolutely accurate as far as my (limited) research has been able to find out.
Werner Herzog (The director) made a documentary about Dieter Dengler a few years ago. Dengler's story is one that Herzog was very close to this is one of his best films. |
