New York, New York | | | | How Do We Get More Big Birds Made? With Corgi recasting itself under new management, it seems unlikely that this company will market any new four-engined WW II diecast aircraft models in the near future. The element of risk is just too great, at least in 1:72 scale. And Franklin Mint must share the same concerns with its 1:48 line. So where do we go to acquire WW II giants like the JU-290, HE-177, FW-200, Short Sterling, C-54, "Emily" or "Mavis" to say nothing of post war multi-engined biggies like the B-36, B-47 and Russia's "Bear" or "Bison"? While Dragon is supposedly going to produce a 1:144 scale HE-177, who knows whether this will actually happen, let alone when this great event will occur. It seems that our only hope lies with Hobby Master, which shows signs of assuming the leadership role in military diecasting. So here's the question. How many of you would support a new "Big Bird" line by HM in a less risky but still viable scale like 1:144 or 1:100? Assuming fair pricing, which planes would you buy in these scales? I would take all of the ones mentioned, above, in either scale, but I prefer 1:100, for obvious reasons. And, yes, I would also buy already-done planes like the Lancaster, Short Sterling, B-17, B-24, B-29 and B-52 in 1:100. |
