You'll frankly never see TopGun planes nowadays----Paramount is viciously protective of the trademark (even though they are technically public domain real USN insignia) and charges tens of thousands of dollars for even a very small license. (Some guys tried to make decals recently, and contacted Paramount to see what would be required).

IMHO, most "movie planes" are pointless---fake insignia, inaccurate paint schemes, filmed using radio control models or CG instead of the real thing, etc. The Final Countdown is an exception, since those are real planes with real markings from real squadrons! All the equipment is real, only the story is fake. I can't think of any "fake" plane I'd prefer over a model of a real one. Just IMHO.
