Re: Jolly Green

He was in a H-3 that he had to crash land. He had rescued some pilots , but took hits while doing it. They couldn't make it home, He crash landed in the jungle. A team of a Skyraider and a Jolly Green came to get them out, and weather became an issue. They had to leave my uncle and his co-pilot in the jungle overnight, and return in the morning. My uncle said the the skyraider had been flying so low, that he could read the numbers on the cowling. I think he said is was something like 510 or something like that. The next morning, as soon as the sun was rising, he could her the Jolly Green coming in. The Sandy was there covering the Jolly Green which took sometime to clear out the enemy fire. My uncle said that he never saw one aircraft fire that much ordanance. As he was coming up the cable of the helicopter, the skyraider flew past, and he said he would never forget seeing that same 510 on the cowling as he came up. Very cool story. When I took my Uncle to the NMUSAF a few months ago, he was his normal self all the way through the WWI, WWII, Korea, and even most of the Vietnam stuff, but when we got the the A-1, he stppoed dead in his tracks, and told me that story for the first time ever.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.
