| But when Corgi recently announced the cancellation of some releases, and reductions in production numbers of others, there were complaints from many people on this site about that. We can't have it both ways! |
I would guess that has more to do with the fact they (and, I in the spirit of full disclosure) may not get the ones they have been waiting to add to the collection if it were all about unlimited runs in order to make a profit. Many collectors would be perfectly happy if only 100 models were released as long as they got 1 of the 100. While I don't purchase based on future profit - generally because I gamble on the stock market and that makes even less sense than diecast, not to mention limited space - many do and if that is something that makes the hobby enjoyable for them more power to them. However, I must admit when it comes to the premium I pay for Corgi I am not overly jazzed at releases of 3000+ for what I consider "desirable" models because who wants to lose money? It certainly seems there is a limit to demand as you can always find the larger releases available for quite some time and, after the retailers are sold out, available at less than a premium on the secondary market.
I guess I could have summarized my ramblings as - I love limited editions, I want a lot of liveries and I want you to pay me twice what I paid because I was the quicker clicker!
