| Re: Limited Edition Overkill Hey there.
Yes and no. For us fanatics, who want EVERYTHING, then yes, it can be daunting. If you are concerned with value on the secondary market, then you are always going to be on a never ending quest to get all the rare models.
However, I'll bet that the individual vendors never get enough of limited editions. After all, if you are Chuck Yeager admirer and you find out that some is doing his P-39 (I'm just making these up folks.) then you are going to seek out that new/different vendor. It brings the vendor new business and customers which he would have never gotten otherwise, which after all is the whole point.
If only a small fraction of those folks turn into regulars (Say 10 out of 1000) then you've got ten new customers you didn't have before and never would have had. I don't know what the average customer spends, but the $100.00 ot $500.00 a year that I'm guessing is average for the casual diecast customer, it adds up nicely.
Plus, almost everyone on thsi forum has posted pictures or requests for certain birds. With all sorts of folks doing indivual special editions, wait long enough and your bird will turn up. It's good for the business and fun for the folks that get them. I don't need every limited edition, but I certainly treasure the ones I have. |
