I don't think that's true in general. They may be non-sellers to you, but other collectors actually like them. Matter of personal preferrence. I, like you, would rather see operational liveries, but I'm not beyond buying one-off schemes if it's special enough and well executed. My collection is probably about 90% "operational" (I include liveries of specific pilots/aces, etc.. in that category) and 10% "specials," but I can see why someone would skew their percentages more towards the latter.
Some of the special "airshow" liveries produced by certain companies have sold very well. I do agree that the first release of a subject should not be an airshow scheme, though.
FVD | I think Hobby Master has been doing a pretty good job with diversity, like KD said, some people like show planes but the majority like operational themes. I feel Hobby Master has a good blend of both but they have to get their timing down for show plane releases and I'm working on that so they are released later in the schedule. |
