Where, Oh Where, Has My Little Dog Gone?

Don't it make you sick when you see these guys who call themselves 'Professors' sounding off on TV about Global Warming?

On tonight's BBC news we had to witness two geezers who were poo-pooing the concerns which people have for our dying planet by sneering at their concern and informing us that whatever people do, they can't affect climate change because no matter what nations do, they just cannot affect anything as complex and variable as the planet's climate.

They are the kind of creatures who deserve no respect and everyone's contempt because they have sold their souls to the media on this issue.

The great corporations which control the news, the economy are delighted to invite these morons on to the airwaves in order to pacify and reassure the masses before concern for our collective well-being affects their profits.

They remind me of the Romans who watched Vesuvius in its initial eruptive stages. They stood still, in awe, muttering, " I wonder what it will do next? "

They found out when the tide of white-hot ash rolled down the hill and roasted them alive. Men, women, dogs, cats, horses, et al, were all engulfed in the catastrophe.

Thousands of years later, long after Pliny had described the eruption, the cavities created by the bodies of the fallen were revealed to modern man through the simple expedient of filling the voids with Plaster-of-Paris which revealed people clutching each other, people reaching for comfort, people caught in the acts of stealing, running, crying and shouting.

Some of the cavities revealed the pets of the victims. Several were dogs. Some chained pathetically to the doorways which they would guard for eternity, some cowering in fear at the power of the Earth, the nature of which they could only be vaguely aware of, some loyally remaining beside their masters as they faced an unfathomable threat to the hand which fed them.

Such a little disruption of history, far off in time and well past caring about. But with a significance which spirals beyond the mere consequences of the event.

Pliny read the signs of the impending tragedy and knew that all who could not flee would remain in Pompeii and Herculanium frozen in time and place by events which man could only comprehend by reference to divine retribution.

When I visited Pompeii, I gazed in wonder at the walls and artifacts and thought that I saw a message for us all.

Mess with the Earth and, unlike the plaster dogs of Pompeii, it bites back!

Oh, those professors? They haven't a clue as to what's happening. I don't know much about it either.

However, like a dog who has been in the sun too long, I'm just mad enough to bite, in order to teach them a pointy lesson!
