Re: Are the current Hurricane molds good enough?

I think the question is whether there is a niche that a new Hurricane mould could fit into. Gemini was very canny about picking subjects that were both well known but still not really covered in 1/72 diecast. Everyone has a ton of P-51D models but when Gemini arrived with a B model it was something collectors might but despite the D model overload. Same with the mark of Spitfire and 109 model they picked.

I'd say that a Sea Hurricane would not by itself generate enough livery variations to make it of interest to Gemini. I'm not up enough on Hurricanes to know if any such niche does exist that hasn't been heavily mined by Corgi.

Gemini will prefer to stay out of areas that others have already covered. They learned this from their core 1/400 airliner business. This is also why you don't see them announcing their releases a year in advance. If you do that in 1/400 someone else is liable to release the livery you are doing first.

Assuming all that is truth I can understand why the rumor is that the next Gemini Aces moulds will be a Skyraider and an F4. There are very few World War II fighters they can jump in on that will generate the sales and number of liveries they will want to see. Let's face it- as much as we might love to see a P-39, to pick one example, there will not be enough interest or liveries to sell enough birds to interest someone like Gemini.
