Re: American International Toy Fair

MoMo,
Maybe the limited production runs of 500 is simply because Admiral is only going to sell 500 of each? Better to sell out than have 500 extra tanks taking up warehouse space.

Dear djjeffhall,

I take your point. I would not wish to hold any company as a hostage to fortune, however good or bad they were. They have a living to make and they are taking the risk of creating new lines for our collecting passions.

The point is, and this is quite clear from most members who have commented, that production runs of 500 don't make sense unless prices are sky-high or we'll see 500 of a model then 500 more with a slight variation, or they will appear in another guise/logo/badge/promotion,etc.

I guess that after all the interest which contributers to the forum have generated, everyone is afraid that, as LegioLXXll puts it, wargammers will vacume all available models into their maw as soon as they appear. They do like to equip whole army units at a time. Especially if a model has not been available in any form prior to its release date.

There is a case in point here. Hanomag 251s have attracted wargammers as they have appeared from Dragon's stable. There is a practical reason for this. They are notoriously fiddly to deal with when you are building groups of them. They cost only a few dollars more for a fully-built model compared to the Pro-Model kit. Also, you need to be pretty good with the old air-brush to compete with Dragon's army of painters and renderers.

The same case, of course, can be made for all Dragon and Fov products, as well as Admiral's intended releases.

Less availability means less to go round guys, and that puts a dent in all our carefully scheduled buying plans!
