| Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K. Hey, ho, off to the fair! Today a trip to Edinburgh to the Model shop, Wonderland, hoping to find some of the Dragons which have been in the pipeline, and are now prepared to be bought up by die-cast junkies. Not much luck! There are orders in, but the shop is still waiting on the new stock to appear. Still, I did get another Hanomag 251, 97th Inf Div. Bohemia, 1945. I love the camo scheme on this one and because they are thin on the ground, I got one while it was there. My motto, if you see it on the shelf, it'll soon be gone so get it while it's physically there! I also got another Sherman, 7th Armoured Div. France, 1944. This is one to be taken from the box and mixed in with the CDC, Esci, FOV and other Dragons which look great. I've seen pictures of groups of WW2 Shermans which included many types, and a mixture of this type, in all shades of green and some camo, looks great on display. At this time, they are all on a diorama board of a crossroads and all part of a traffic jam! M.P.s are trying to sort out the mess, but I think that a few tempers may well be lost in little old 1.72 Land! ( it's all a bit like that scene in 'Paton' when Paton himself has to sort out such a traffic jam to get the wheels rolling again! ) In stock were lots of M4A3(76)W V V S S Shermans, along with assorted Hummels and Nashorns, all of which I have. The Hornisse has disappeared. All gone. Looking at the stock, the shelves were devoid of other 251 types: " Wargammers buy 'em up as quickly as they appear", I was told. " They have proved to be a collecting niche, in their own right, and collectors eagerly await the variants which are in the pipeline." I needn't tell you guys what awaits us over the next few years! I suspect that Dragon will bite the bullet and try to produce all the 251 variants....all 22 (? ) types which can be identified as distinct variants. Can they all be produced legitimately as both C and D types? ( that makes 44! ) And can they all manifest themselves in at least 4 camo schemes? ( that makes 176 ! ) Surely Dragon cannot produce so many? We'll just have to wait and see. Dotted round the shelves, but gradually disappearing, are the last vestiges of the Maus variants/fantasies. We're unlikely to see those again. Several Stugs awaited new owners, but the early type with the jagged defences are all gone. Come on, Dragon, get those new types moving! I'll check out my Glasgow haunts soon. MoMo |
