Panzer IV H S2 ?????

I originally asked this question on the other forum a few months ago but got no response. The pz 4 s2 has a wolfs head unit marking that all the research in the world could not identify. With no luck, I had basically given up, till yesterday, I stumbled across a pic of what closely resembled the marking. Does anyone know if there was a armored unit(ad-hoc or otherwise) that adopted a Luftwaffe symbol as their own?

Re: Panzer IV H S2 ?????

I've asked some our KG German forces experts. Hopefully they will soon have an answer.

The Luftwaffe symbol seems legit see:

Re: Panzer IV H S2 ?????

The only marking that I know of that comes close is the 3rd Panzer Division, but that should be a Berlin Bear in the shield not a wolf head. Nothing I have shows a marking like that one, so I'd say its fake.

One of KG bros concurs. This is his response:

It's a fake. It's a copy from JG 77.

Re: Panzer IV H S2 ?????

Sorry for the belated repsonse
KG_Jag thanks for the confirmation. As they seem generally on the ball about unit markings, it makes no sense why 21st would do this. There are so many realistic markings they could have used, it boggles the mind that they would opt for a fantasy piece.

Maybe alittle careful use of some acetone will take care of that!

Re: Panzer IV H S2 ?????

Hi, this is my first post. I don't have any reference material depicting panzer unit markings, but has anyone considered the Hermann Goering Division as a possibility?

Take care.
