BBI P-51 Cripes A' Mighty

I finally got my BBI 1/18 P-51 Mustang Cripes A' Mighty 3rd. It's a great model with the usual BBI P-51 problems (bomb racks, tail wheel, dihedral). Mine came with a few minor paint flaws and one tail wheel cover comes off easily. I also removed the funky antenna wire like I did on my BBI Donald Duck and F4u Corsair Daisy June.
The Cripes doesn't have any weathering unlike my BBI P-51 Donald Duck. This is good and bad---I got used to the Donald Duck's weathering and weathering would have covered up most of the paint problems. On the other hand, no weathering allows all of the detail such as rivets and seams to be more obvious.

George Preddy's hometown of Greensboro, NC is 60 miles from my hometown, not to mention he is the all-time leading P-51 ace, so I'm glad to have this model, although it was relatively expensive ($78.40 delivered).

Question Re: BBI P-51 Cripes A' Mighty

Another plus about the Cripes A' Mighty---all those white crosses look neat on the blue paint. It's a shame Preddy was a victim of friendly fire.

Question: When I was a kid, I had a large Monogram P-51 with a pitot tube undel the right wing, and I've noticed the P-51s on the DOGFIGHTS dvds also have a pitot under the right wing. The BBI and 21st Century OP-51s don't have the pitot tube. Who's right?

The older 21st P-51 had it on there but for some reason the latest release of these P-51D's they missed it on both BBI and 21st..
It should of been one under the wing.

I'm 60 miles from Greensboro also. Live in a small town near Pinehurst NC. Love his P-51.

STARMAN 352ND:

Thanks. I always wondered---seems like a pretty cheap omission by BBI to leave the pitot off especially considering the detail in the cockpit, pilot's uniform, rivets, etc.

Re: BBI P-51 Cripes A' Mighty

You could always make one with wire if you wanted one on there.

STARMAN352ND:

Unfortunately, I have 10 thumbs---that's why I buy pre-assembled, pre-painted models instead of kits.

Also, I've noticed your photos of your BBI Cripes A' Mighty in previous posts are now blank---do you have some you can post again?

Thanks
