Opinion on 21st Century 1/48 P-40N?

I'm looking for owners of the 1/48 P-40N to give their opinions on this model. How would you rate it? How does the front end (prop hub to firewall) look compared to the real Warhawk/Kittyhawk? Can you post front end photos of your model if possible?

Thanks!

For the price, it's a very decent gap filler. Better than FM's anyway !

Re: Opinion on 21st Century 1/48 P-40N?

Ara,

I just got this model yesterday from my local Walmart. Considering I only paid $9.97 for it (which is less than a 1:72 scale EasyModel), I really like it. On a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being the best) this one gets a 6.5 or 7. Compared to say a diecast model, it has issues. But for the price and seeing how it is a "mass produced" plastic model/toy, it's not bad.

The propeller hub sits pretty close to the firewall. There is a gap but I've seen much worst. Overall the model has some issues such as the wings don't align as well with the fuselage as they should and the compression hinges on the main gear when it's down face forward when they should face backwards. If you can or like to tinker with models like several of our members do, it can be whipped into an awesome looking P-40N with minimum effort.

I will do an in depth review on a new thread after I do some "customizing" on the model. I posted a few pictures - sorry about the quality but my digital camera sucks. Hope this helps.

HotTrap,

Thanks for posting the pictures. Looks very interesting... if you take more shots of the nose/engine, please post them, I am interested in the accuracy of the "look" of the engine scoop/bulge.

I will have to check my MA Walmarts!

Cool, thanks for the photos. Nice model, great plane.

Ara,

The intake on top of the engine is well done and is accurate. It is hollowed out and looks good. The radiator chin is also well done and includes the three way divider. I'll take another picture sometime for you.

The P-40N is a decent piece from 21st. I had one but sold it just because I didn't really care for the scheme. I would have much rather had a AVG or other scheme.

Go for it if you like the scale. I bought it for $5 and loved it, went out to buy a 1/18 P-40, highly disappointed with the 1/18. I sold it a while ago since I don't collect 1/48.
