Re: BBD Diecast.

Based off of pictures I've seen..................GMP. Corgi's 1/32 would be a close 2nd. (Note: I do not own either of these, but would like too. )

Dragon Wings Warbirds 1/72 effort is the best I have seen.

I have all three the above. GMP is the most crisp paint and detail wise. Corgi's has the best profile. Dragon's is the only one to consider in 1/72 eventhough the anti-glare nose paint is green instead of black.

Others you might NOT want to consider: Corgi's 1/72 looks funny and MRC's 1/72 lacks fine detail.

Are we sure the anti-glare should be black? Corgi did it in black, I know, but GMP did it in OD (as they also did with the Old Crow). I was under the impression OD was correct as this was just left from the original all OD paint schemes the Mustangs had when they first arrived in the theater? (pretty certian this is correct with the Old Crow). I'm by no means well-versed in the technicalities of paint applications though.

I thought Dragon just did it in the wrong shade of green...... inquiring minds...

I have the GMP and Dragon versions (and have seen the Corgi on many occasions up close). I think GMP takes top honors myself.

Pappy, I've also pondered about the true shade of anti-glare panel paint used on USAAF birds during the WWII era. After a bit of research both from my reference books and online, I will confidently claim that the shade used is an Olive Drab paint. I've looked at some very good color pictures of WWII Mustangs from Jeffry Ethel's collection of that period, and sure enough it proves it to be an OD shade. The Flat Black paint anit-glare panel were implented on Mustangs that served in the Korean War period. There's plenty evidence for that. I believe that GMP got
their anti-glare panel paint shade correct, if I may dare say so!

Pappy.
Just checked my GMP and you're correct. It is a dark OD. I don't know whether the original s/be black or dark OD but I can be almost 100% certain it ain't the color (shade) of OD Dragon has on it's BBD!
