Three from 21st Century

Over the last week I've added my first three 21st Century models to my collection. First was the shark mouth 1/48 Hellcat. Last week I found in my desk a gift card left over from Christmas. I checked and it had a little over $20 on it. That doesn't go far with online shopping thanks to shipping and after trying to find something suitable on Amazon I gave up and instead picked up this Hellcat from Bad Cat. I had wanted to check it out but had never seen one at Walmart or Toys-R-Us. I picked the shark mouth version because I didn't get one of those in 1/72.

The color is a bit too dark in the first shot. Had to bump up the lighting a bit.

I was suitably impressed with the Hellcat and decided I'd pick up some more if I saw them. Then on Monday I had to swing by Walmart for a few things and headed over to the toy section. I was actually hoping to see the 1/32 Spitfires but all they had in 1/32 were eight 109Fs. But they did have two more 1/48s and at $9.99 I couldn't resist. So here is the green Tony:

The other 1/48 they had was an older one but new to me:

All of these had minor paint issues but well within my tolerance for models at this price point. Fit of parts was very good and I did not need to use any white glue on them. The guns on the Tony and the pitot tubes on the Tony and Hellcat are flexible rubberish material and are not very straight. They resist being straight quite successfully. The Tony had some problems in that the two halves of the fuselage do not line up perfectly. Again it is a minor thing and I'm willing to live with it. Overall I'm very pleased to have three great planes in 1/48 for under $50.

I will have to visit my other local Walmart to see if I can score the other Tony and Hellcat.

Re: Three from 21st Century

I have also picked up a few of these from Walmart, and overall feel that they are a great value. I just wish they would carry true diecast.

Re: Three from 21st Century

Would somebody kindly tell me what the heck’s going on with Walmart? Dang those people, it’s like they went on strike and refuse to stock 21st Century models in my neighborhood. Where I could mosey on in to any one of seven Walmarts in my area and pick up practically anything I wanted, nowadays I can’t find a single friggin’ 21st Century model to save my life.

Is anybody else having this problem? Maybe a little chat with the managers would help?

By the way, 1250ships, those are exceptional pics.

Re: Three from 21st Century

Great pics 1250!
I have both Hellcats (also from Badcats) and both Tonys. They are exceptional pieces for the price and I have even picked up duplicates for repaints down the road. I haven't seen nor heard of the Hellcats being anywhere other than online yet, so if you want another one, you'll have to get it from the Cat.

And BTW, I have a ton of Green Tonys in my AO, so if anyone has the Silver Tony and looking to trade, or just needs one, PM me and I'll see what I can do.

I am starting to think of these as 1/48 Easy Models.
