BBI Cripes A Mighty The 3RD

I saw this on Ebay guys and I was wondering if it was worth getting? I was going to buy it when it first came out but passed on it to get HHH. I know BBI makes good quality airplanes, I have a few of them but is this Mustang worth adding to my collection? Or should I get 21st Centurys Big Beautifull Doll instead? My first Doll got smashed in a moving accident. Let me hear your opinions guys.

Re: BBI Cripes A Mighty The 3RD

Steve,

Where did you find this on ebay? I just tried looking for it and can't find it. I own Hurrry Home Honey and the Donald Duck BBI p-51's. I also own Big Beautiful Doll P-51 from 21stCT. Both have their pros and cons. The BBI Stangs do not have correct dihedral, their landing gears are not positioned correctly. They sit too far back, the rear gear opens the wrong direction and doesn't sit down far enough, the drop tank/bomb mounting tabs can only fit inside the gun vents on the underside of the wing thereby making the attachments sit way too far back from the leading edge of the wing. However, BBI Stangs are more durable, have more heft, have alot more rivet detail, their tires and wheels look more like the real thing, their cockpit is a little more detailed. 21stCT Stangs have great cockpit too. Their landing gears all operate and sit properly. The only thing lacking from 21st Stangs are more rivet detail and landing lights under the starboard wing. the dihedral is perfect and the 21st Stang captures the overall shape a little better. I like them both. Too bad nobody makes one that captures the best from both companies and sells it.....well of course there are HPH 1:18 models from Europe but I don't think we can easily plunk down upwards of $600 to $4000 for a model now can we?
