Are the 21st Century 1:48 planes that the dealers sell the same as the ones on the shelf at places like Toys R Us or are they hand picked before being shipped to places like Bad Cats or the Mule?

I don't think that 21st's distribution warehouse (or anyone else) cares enough to hand pick the better ones for e-tailers, I think they all get the same stuff..

Re: 1:48 quality

I've never gotten one of these planes before. Yesterday I decided to take a chance and I ordered a 1:48 scale P-51B. Are these planes good or did I make another mistake? I'm not a "picky" collector, but I don't want a total piece of junk either.

Re: 1:48 quality

When the 1:32 MC 202 came out at my WalMart, I had to dig through half a dozen before I found one
I considered acceptable. I have extremely high standards, though, so others may find the quality is
just fine. I tend to reject models even with minor flaws.

hotTrap I would be very interested in your opinion of the model after you have had time to look it over.

Re: 1:48 quality

I have 2 P-51Bs, 6 Bf-109s, 3 Tonys and 2 Hellcats on the way, and although I usually get to handpick the planes I want, the last 2 Tonys and the Incoming Hellcats are ordered sight unseen. Most of the product I have seen has small flaws, but not bad enough to keep me from buying and that is why I ordered this time.

I own that one, HotTrap. I think you'll love it. It's not diecast, but for overall appeal and detail it's really quite good. Can't say the same for 21st Century's 1/48 Me-109s, though.

Re: 1:48 quality

Do any of the regulars stock the Tony? I have not seen one anywhere but Ebay and they were totally over-priced.

Thanks Gort, Harry, Jim, and Larz. I don't mind if these planes are plastic as long as they are fairly well done. For the price, I'm not expecting a "musuem quality" piece. Any small flaws in shape, paint or join lines I can live with and/or ignore. Since I love my 1:48 scale SpecCast Corsairs, I hope these will please me too. I've ordered the Beason P-51B so this will be my 2nd 48th scale model (my SpecCast Corsairs are really more banks than models). Pictures I've seen of this plane show a nice model so I'm looking forward to getting it. I'll let you know what I think.

One TRU near me has restocked the green Tony a couple times (so now there are 6 that will not move for awhile) and there are still a few green/silver at one of the TRU
