Re: 1:48 Hellcats are here...

I seem to recall that the red was removed because they thought it might be confused with the rising sun on the Japanese planes. Not positive on that but it sticks in my mind for some reason. That's why I found it odd that both planes are from 1944 and one has the red and the other does not.

"confused with the rising sun" I thought that was the reason they removed the red circle we had on our star....At least that is what i thought.

Looks good alright. Now how about a nice one in diecast? I must say I'm getting bitten by this 1/48 bug. Got to hold back!

When did the red striping go back around the star and stripe? I see that both F6F's are from 1944 and one has the red and the other does not.

Red border was used from June - Sept 1943. Maybe they were late in changing from red to blue borders

The red circle was removed, not the red border...

Re: 1:48 Hellcats are here...

I decided I was too impatient to wait till these showed up at the retail stores so I ordered both from Badcats.

Re: 1:48 Hellcats are here...

Got both Hellcats today and both are absolutely GREAT! These are probably the best 1/48 planes from 21st to date and I highly recommend getting them if possible.

There are pics at the front of this thread and they are probably better than I could do.
I have only assembled the Catmouth Hellcat and it went together perfectly. There were no gaps and the paint finish is excellent, much better than FMs offering. I was considering getting a FM Hellcat, but I got 2 Hellcats shipped for less than 1/2 the price of one FM Hellcat and I couldn't be happier.

Well, you can find FM hellcats these days for $30 but I guess you're still getting a 2 for 1 -- I'll have to check these out. The one missing airframe that really sticks out like a sore thumb right now in my display is the Hellcat... I don't have one in any scale at the moment (the horror, the horror...)

And for $14.... what's the risk?

Re: 1:48 Hellcats are here...

Either one of these more historically significant than the other? I don't see any kill marks on them and don't know if those are just generic numbers or they were actually flown by a specific pilot. From the pictures I kinda like the lighter coloring of the "White 2". How about it from you guys that have both, do you prefer one coloring over the other?
