Re: Which scale would see four engine bombers?

There have been rumors floating around that we will see a B-17 in 1/32 scale as it could fit in an XD 1/18 box, but since Walmart is no longer carrying XD planes, this may be a dead issue.. I think we will see more planes in 1/32 scale from 21st because 1/32 is a hot seller for 21st and Walmart.. I also think it is a VERY good possibility that we will see a B-25 in 1/32 in the next few years..

Then there's always Figarti's Memphis Belle, a limited edition 1:32nd scale beauty for $900.

Yes I agree! I have the 1/48 HM Buffalos and while they are great, I wish they were in 1/72 though.

I had around three 1:48 fighters, so when I recently obtained the 1:48 Buffalo, it had a few playmates when it arrived!

Like my bombers in 1/72nd scale, no room for the big stuff.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

I think I forget this forum is focused on diecast 1/72ish models.

I wouldn't say that olifant,
Lots of guys on the forum have collections that include just about every scale there is.

I have 1/44, 1/72, 1/48, 1/32 and 1/35.

I mix and match scales with no problem.

Re: Which scale would see four engine bombers?

As some have noted it's really a question of potential profitability for the marketer and a combination of display/storage space plus price for the average collector. Therefore, there's little chance for an extensive four engine bomber line in 1:48th, let alone, 1:32nd scale. As far as 1:72nd scale models are concerned, these might work in plastic following the Easy Model example, but, one hopes, with more consistent QC, crew figures as appropriate, some Dullcoat applications and a bit of metal weight to make the models seem more substantial. A diecast line in this scale that extends beyond a few sure sellers, doesn't seem to be in the cards at this point, unless some way can be found to amortize the mold costs via major "upfront" orders. I doubt that magazine publishers, who perform this function for the current Altaya Bombers of WWII 1:144 series, would go this route in a larger scale.

It may be, however, that some sort of compromise, may eventually lead to a diecast line of four engined bombers in 1:100th scale. This is large enough to do justice to many of the planes size and detail-wise, yet it affords the benefits of lower costs to the marketer and lower prices, along with display/storage advantages to the collector.

I'm gonna really get under Hornchurch's skin here and say that that Memphis Belle is waaaay inaccurate...(for one thing I've never seen "Memphis Belle" spelled "Yankee Doodle")

Don't worry guys - this is a topical 'Tete a Tete' that Skunky & I've had.....over the last few months !

As it happens (& without being a 'Full-On' "Anorak" - i.e. checking-up)........

I thought that "Yankee-Doodle" was ALSO a 91st B.G. Bassingbourne based 'bird' ?????

I KNOW from pix I've seen, that you're right Skunky (on THIS occasion)......

"Yankee Doodle" was one of the earlier block-number B.17's & DID NOT have the 'nose-astrodome'....
as portrayed in the pictures on this & the preceeding-page.

Interesting to note; that the Wheel-Hubs on this B.17 are painted the same as on "Memph'-Belle"

Shame the canopy frame don't match the adjoining fuselage paint !!!!!!!!!!!!

The colour shades look VASTLY different from the Corgi "Yankee Doodle" '17
