Merit Int P-51D Mustang

Hey guys. I am looking to get on of the 1/24th Merit Int P-51D Mustangs. The one I am gonna get is the Eagleston version. I saw one the other day and I will tell you this, they may be models in 1/24th scale but they are equal if not better then their 1/18th cousins I will say that. The weathering, paint you name it they are nice. Little does anyone know that they are actually 1/24th Trumpeter Mustangs. The Trump Mustangs have been nit picked at by the rivet counters in the modelling community but seeing these things professionally painted and all makes me want one bad. Anyone else here agree or disagree with me on this?

I love the Merit 'Stangs as well. Only wish they had other schemes to offer though?

I just talked with Matt at Bad Cat and he said they are now both out of production. Historic Aviation has a limited supply of the Eagleston Mustang and the Shangri La bird. So I put on on hold. Its to bad to see them go out of production. I thought they were great looking Mustangs.

Cool What a nice surprise

I was feelin' low, I was feelin' down. The Hanger was down, so I went to town, to see if I could ease the pain by buying a model plane. OK, I'll stop the poet act. I did end up at WalMart with my bride: She headed for the clothing section and I headed for the toy section. I wasn't having any luck until I spotted three 1:32 issues by 21st Century Toys: A P-51B/C "Bald Eagle"; Bf-109-2/F-4; and a P-47D "Tarheel Hal'. I toyed with idea for a bit and then picked up the first two at $14.96 each. When I got back to our winter rental I put them together. What a pleasant surprise-the overall effect is quite good, and the colors and markings look accurate. I have two Corgi 1:32s in my hanger: Barkhorn Bf-109 and the Lane Spitfire and they are in a class by themselves. However, from two feet away you'd be hard pressed to tell who built what.

I have a number of Easy Models in my collection and now I've added two from 21st Century. If the quality of the pre-built plastic models continues to improve it doesn't bode well for the die cast makers. I really love my good die cast issues; however, I also like keeping more dollars in my bank account. Quality issues by CW, C1, HM, et al, will get some hard second looks before buying. The future looks very interesting for us serious collectors.
