Favorite 1/18th Aircraft.

Last edited by Steve1971 : 07-14-2007 at 02:29 AM. Reason: misspelled word
Well this is my first post and I have a question for all of you. Whats you favorite 1/18th aircraft that you have? Its a tough one for me because I have so many but if I had to pick one it would have to be my BBI Marines Dream Corsair with Hurry Home Honey 2nd followed by Big Beautiful Doll. But Marines Dream is just to me the perfect Corsair in 1/18th and the detailing is simply awsome, you cant get any better. I added a few other details to Marines Dream like wiring to the engine, handles on the canopy and I am going to be adding some details to the landing gear struts. People say "these are toys, why bother?" Well because I try to make the planes I like as realistic as possible and if they look as good as Marines Dream then why not? I had a chance to see the real Marines Dream last summer and I was knocked out by it. I sat in the cockpit and had a chance to feel what it must have been like to fly this bird in WW 2, or at least one like it. I'm also in the process of detailing Big Beautiful Doll as we speak. Hurry Home Honey already has been done. Marines Dream is my top favorite until the F6F Hellcat from BBI arrives. Now the Grumman Cat is my all time favorite fighter plane, more so then the Corsair or the Mustang. There is something about the Hellcat that has had me since I was a little kid and seeing the photos of the 1/18th Hellcat on the Bad Cat Toys website makes my mouth drool. But for now its Marines Dream.

Whats your guys favorite and why?

Lets hear it.

Cool photo huh guys? I think so.

Re: Favorite 1/18th Aircraft.

I have to say my 21st Century's Pappy Boyington Corsair and Preddy's "Cripes A Mighty 3rd" BBI Mustang are my favorite 1/18 so far..Then 3rd in line would be Tommy McGuire's P-38J Lightning made by 21st Century as well..
Now i'm waiting for the F4 Phantom...

Re: Favorite 1/18th Aircraft.

Welcome to the forum, Steve1971.

I must admit I don't have any 1/18 models - even though I am focusing on 1/48 and above space is an issue and I don't plan to move above 1/32 any time soon. However, I have seen a fair number of the 1/18 in person and I would submit the Boyington Corsair was the one that ALMOST made me change my mind.

Re: Favorite 1/18th Aircraft.

I have the Marine's Dream Corsair by BBI as well, and yup it's my favorite scheme too! I also have P-51D "Killer" flown by Bob Stephens. I almost went for 21st CT's BBD P-51 just for
it's scheme, but I'd rather prefer to have BBI's superb moulding of their P-51 over the 21st CT anyday.

My F4U Marine's Dream. And that is a sweet pic. It is my favorite Corsair.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Hey flyXwire,

Dont pass up Big Beautiful Doll even thought its from 21st Century. I have have had alot of compliments about it since I got it, Know its not as detailed and so fourth as the supreme BBI Mustang but the paint scheme alone makes it worth the buying it. Hey and since your a fan of the 4th fighter group I wondered if you have seen the 21st Century 1/18th Ridge Runner 3? The prop blades and tires are messed up but when I got mine I replaced the prop and fixed the tires and it looks sweet. But again if you come across Big Beautiful Doll again buy it because its a beauty. Just a word of caution though. Some of the Big Beautiful Dolls have messed up paint problems like smudges, overspray ect. Go thru them and look them over like I did. The Doll is worth buying even though its not as good as BBI's Mustang. You wont regret it buddy.

I bought them from Wally World.. The Dora, I bought about 3 years ago and the Sahl I bought over a year ago.. I hear that the Sahl is still available in some Walmarts in the US, but there aren't any in my neck of the woods..

The 21st CT 1/18th Ridge Runner III is another favorite of mine, but I just couldn't commit myself to getting it for the same reasons I have about the BBD too! Sure it's nice, but as you say about the paint jobs on the 21st CT a/c - it is also a deal-breaker and a major turn-off for me.
