Re: Favorite 1/18th Aircraft.

flyXwire,

I have Ridge Runner III and I have to say the except for the grey tires and bent prop blades its one of my favorite Mustangs in 1/18th I have. I fixed the prop by replacing it with one I scavenged from a freind of mines 51' in which he broke by accident. I also replaced the grey tires with the correct black ones. The paint apps have no flaws at all in fact I havent hearD a single thing being said about flawed paint schemes on Ridge Runner III. Mine was perfect thats one reason why its staying in my collection. Also who could turn down a Mustang that represents a proud FG like the 4th? They were part of the Eagle Squadron that flew in the Battle Of Britton and they were the squadron that had 1000+ plus kills in WW 2 and were led by the famous Col Don Blakesley, a man who I would have been proud to serv under anyday.

Ok I said enough but if you love the 4th FG you have to get Ridge Runner III flyXwire. Once you fix the prop and the grey tires its almost perfect. In fact in my book, and I will say this its better then the other 21st Century Mustang releases. But I am being a little biased to.

Thanks for that, Steve1971. I do have Witty's RR III in 1:72nd....but if BBI will do this scheme for their P-51 I would be all over it!

Re: Favorite 1/18th Aircraft.

changes to hellcat

Thanks Mike for posting the photos. I took advantage of the Bad Cat memorial day sale and bought one. I finally got the money to do it! Anyway. This is one bird I have waited for for a long time and come Weds it will finally be here. I cant wait. The F6F has been a favorite of mine since I was a little kid and it ranks as my all time favorite fighter plane of WW 2. I have books, videos you name it I have it on the F6F and this will be the center peice of my 1/18th collection. Best of all BBI has released it in the markings of Lt Jg Alexander Vraciu's white 19 perhaps one of the most famous Hellcats of all time, what could be better for a die hard Hellcat fan.

I have heard some complain about the folding wings and so fourth but to me its no big deal because mine wont be folded anyway. I'm going to be doing some detailing as well, just touching up things BBI may have missed. Which dont look to be much I may add.

I have a question though Mike? Did they include the kill markings? Please say they did.

I will have my own review of this magnificent bird soon.

Smile Re: Favorite 1/18th Aircraft.

Well I got my F6F and all I can say is wow! BBI did one hell of a job on this, my favorite pacific fighter of WW 2. I cant say enough about it except that it was worth the wait. The folding wing feature isnt as bad as I thought it would be and although the folding wings aint 100% accurate they aint bad looking either. The only complaint I have is the gaps on the spine of the fusalge and the gap on the belly of the model which I filled with modelers putty. Right now my Hellcat has been broken down because I'm doing a custom job on it which means I'm adding the small things BBI didnt put on it which aint no problem because I love doing custom work on my planes. The cockpit is the best in 1/18th scale so far in my book. BBI is getting better and better as far as cockpit detail is concerned.

Like I said I have waited for the F6F to made in 1/18th scale for a very long time and now its in my hands and I couldnt be happier with the results. My Hellcat has toppled my Marines Dream Corsair as my favorite 1/18th aircraft.

My top 3 favorite list:

BBI F6F.
BBI Marines Dream FG-1D Corsair.
BBI P-51D Hurry Home Honey.

Now all they have to make in my book is a 1/18th F-14 Tom Cat.

Wishful thinking Steve....It will be a long wait before we see a F-14 in 1:18 scale...
Even the F4 Phantom in 1:18 has some setbacks...
