Re: 1:18 Bud Anderson P-51D Mustang "Old Crow" Silver bird PICTURES

I have BBD and Ridge Runner 3 and the landing gears look fine to me guys. In fact thats one thing they have over the BBI Mustangs. They are correct and they have the forward rake look of the real thing. Whats this porblem you guys are talking about if you dont mind me asking? Is there something I'm not seeing. By all means help me out on this one.

Re: 1:18 Bud Anderson P-51D Mustang "Old Crow" Silver bird PICTURES

Steve, are you saying that the landing gear on yours doesn't look like this? (see post 9) - doors too short, anorexic struts tires and wheels...If yours are different please post pics!!!

See post 12 for what they should look like (darned close anyway)...Corgi's 1/32nd line comes closer to the real thing than anything else in the "undercarriage" department....(although I'm totally revolted by their 1/72nd Mustangs)

Re: 1:18 Bud Anderson P-51D Mustang "Old Crow" Silver bird PICTURES

Steve, compare the BBD Mustang in your avatar to the 21st/BBI Mustang because both suffer from gear doors that are WAY too short.. This is the main reason my BBD Mustang is "inflight" patrolling my garage ceiling at the moment..

Re: 1:18 Bud Anderson P-51D Mustang "Old Crow" Silver bird PICTURES

Hi Guys,
The photo depicted on 21st's box has correct gear doors. I don't care too much about flaws like this. It's when paint is mottled and pad printing doesn't match that gets me. Never bought a BBI so I have nothing to complain about on Old Crow. When the F-4 hits the shelves I'll be just as happy. But it's been fun reading this thread as always!!!!

Ps. By the way Jack Rouch of Nascar fame owns the original Old Crow, so it seems NASCAR isn't too far from alot of intrests...

Re: 1:18 Bud Anderson P-51D Mustang "Old Crow" Silver bird PICTURES

Ok guys heres the story and I know what you guys are talking about. First the gear doors on Big Beautiful Doll are not short. The reason they look short is because 21st put the gear legs in the extended postion. When the Mustang is parked the gear legs are compressed which which means they are not in the extended postion. Just look at a real Mustang taking off. You will see that the gear legs appear longer then when the Mustang is parked. Since my Mustang is being displayed in a diorama scene I trimed the struts and made them look compressed which means shorter and the gear doors are fine. BBI's landing gear is also extended as well which makes the gear doors look small on there Mustang as well. As far as the gear struts being wrong compared to BBI's? To me the gear legs are to thick on the BBI Mustang. They dont look that way on the real Mustang. Also the tires are thin on both 21st and BBI Mustangs due to they need to be that way so they will fit into the wheel wells.

Now in no way am I defending 21st because their Mustangs dont match up to the BBI Mustangs in many ways but I have to say that the 21st Century Mustangs gear legs look better then BBI's.

Like I said. What I did was shorten the gear legs on my 21st and BBI Mustangs and they look good. I only hate the tires on both models/toys but I can see why both companies had to do that. They are toys after all even though I dont consider them that but thats just me.

Re: 1:18 Bud Anderson P-51D Mustang "Old Crow" Silver bird PICTURES

Hi Guys,
After living with this new P-51 OC for over a week and closely inspecting it. I can say it is a nice model. Pannel lines are prominent NO runs in the paint and worth every bit of what we pay for such a TOY If you are seeing problems in workmanship then don't blame the design blame the workers! I feel they need to slow down the production and then the QC will come back. Or blame ourselves as we spend more time chomping at the bit nitpicking products when differences we know nothing about happened for several reasons.

All manufacturers push to get these things out on time and you can bet we're the blame for that! BBI / 21st / and others have flaws too to me it's prefrence and availability of a said model. Great thread Guys!!!!!! Alph

Re: 1:18 Bud Anderson P-51D Mustang "Old Crow" Silver bird PICTURES

Hi Skunky,
This problem with Quality VS price trickles down to even the smallest scales in diecast. As consumers it would serve us well to accept minor flaws and let manufacturers know how we feel about these products. I'll bet the only market reasearch done on these models is at toy fairs. NO Focus groups just a primo example in a panorama for kids drunk on CANDY to "say" Thats REALLY cool!!!

For the sake of poking FUN "YOU MUST ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY your a consumer too my comrad in collecting!!!! Alph
